My 3-month-old kitten is lethargic, anemic, and has a fever. Help!

Spartan may be suffering from a variety of different ailments. There are infectious disease, immune-mediated processes, and certain parasites known to cause the clinical signs that Spartan is exhibiting. If he is yellow as the pictures would suggest, his liver and biliary system are likely affected. He would most likely benefit from being in a hospitalized setting where he can receive fluid therapy and the appropriate treatments. Many times in cats showing these symptoms, there gastrointestinal tracts are not suited to digest / absorb oral medications, thereby making at-home therapy next to useless. While Synulox is an effective antibiotic, without more information and /or diagnostics, I would be using several additional medications beyond that. I would encourage you to get Spartan back into the vet on an emergency basis for reanalysis and reassessment.

Poor guy. Non-regenerative anemia in an older cat is always concerning. Due to the timing of all of these events however, his anemia could have very well have been caused by the medication alone. This would be considered to be an adverse reaction that would not be normal for any pet to have not can be predicted. But with that said it usually is a regenerative anemia when medication is the cause. A closer look at his bloodwork could help clarify this. Other possible causes that are common in older cats are: feline leukemia/feline aids or cancer unfortunately. Typically with all of these you will also get some changes with the white blood cell count levels as well and often-times a fever. Overall the prognosis would be guarded to poor considering your pets age and the fact that the anemia is non- regenerative. I am so sorry to be bearer of bad news here. If his appetite has decreased with antibiotics, I would recommend discontinuing the antibiotics and seeing how his appetite improves. If he continues to be inappetant or is lethargic, I would have the veterinarian recheck him to ensure everything is ok. If he continues to be itchy, I would recommend using a topical shampoo such as Douxo PS shampoo which can be found online quite easily and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend using Essential 6 spot on by Dermoscent, which can also be found online. If he continues to be itchy, it may be time to consider switching to a different food or even consider seeing a veterinary dermatologist. I hope this helps! Without a full history and physical it is impossible to guess exactly what the cause of her fever is. Antibiotics will only help to treat bacterial infection but will not help with viral infections. Blood tests for FELV/FIV and feline herpes virus may help to identify underlying causes. I would continue with the lysine, a high quality kitten food and probiotics until test results come back

I'm sorry to hear that Sabbath is so sick. Pale gums, lethargy, and a fast heart rate may be signs of anemia, or a low red blood cell count. This could be due to a flea infestation, infectious diseases, or cancer. Sabbath really must be seen by a vet. Aside from treating a flea infestation at home (if one exists), there really isn't anything you can do at home to manage clinical signs this severe. Try to ask your vet if they accept payment plans or have other financing options available.

Hello. You should take the kitten in to be evaluated as soon as possible. Fleas do carry diseases that can infect cats & kittens, & if there are enough fleas, can actually cause anemia. If the kitten has not been wormed, then the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms can weaken a kitten further. Hello. Unfortunately, the symptoms you describe are pretty vague & can really fit with a lot of things. I do not know how much veterinary care is available in your country, or even what diseases are present, but it sounds like Poufpouf needs antibiotics at the least, & then have some diagnostic bloodwork done, too. This might include a complete blood count, serum chemistry analysis, urinalysis & tests for feline leukemia & aids. This is what I would recommend if you lived in the US.
