Can I feed my 2-month-old kitten homemade food instead of commercial?

Unfortunately I can't recommend feeding a diet such as you are suggesting. Kittens need minerals (among other things) for proper growth, especially calcium and phosphorus, and they need to receive them at a specific ratio. Commercial diets specifically prepared for growing cats are formulated properly, and I would urge you to feed one of these. Royal Canin is available in India, and they have an excellent diet for kittens. You can certainly continue feeding a bit of chicken (preferably white meat/no bones) along with the commercial diet, but limit the amount you feed to only a tablespoon or so.

Cats have very specific dietary needs, and home diets are not recommended for kittens. Kofi need a kitten food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, or Iams. I hope this helps!

Hi there. I would recommend feeding her a high quality kitten food until she is 9 months old. You can feed her canned food and dry food. There are four brands of food I recommend: Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I would feed Leo one of those brands, and make sure it's a kitten food. Measure out the daily recommend amount of food listed on the bag, and leave it out during the day for Leo to graze on throughout the day. This is how I feed my cats.

However, it is extremely difficult to make the meals nutritionally balanced. For this reason, I recommend using a recipe provided by a veterinary nutritionist. I have several clients using this and have been so pleased with the results. I recommend www.balanceit.com. The nutritional requirements for a kitten will be different from an adult dog. Kittens need more protein and fat for growth and development. They also require an amino acid known as taurine in their diet. I hope this information helps!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Ronnie! Ronnie should now be eating a balance commercial kitten food. Cats have special requirements for certain amino acids and vitamins that can not be provided in a human cooked diet with out the guidance of a Veterinarian. They can suffer intestinal and heart problems without these nutrients. I would recommend feeding her Purina kitten chow or any other commercial kitten food. Also too much oil (olive oil) can cause intestinal and pancreatic problems. Ronnie may also have intestinal parasites and should be dewormed. There are contagious viruses around also, even if she is indoors, that can make her sick. I recommend an exam by a Vet, starting her on a commercial kitten food, deworm her and give her vaccines when she is healthy enough. I hope this helps and I wish Ronnie a speedy recovery!

Home-made diets are typically NOT recommended by veterinarians, as it is very difficult to ensure cats are getting the proper amounts and percentages of nutrients. Cats have very particular needs when it comes to food, and they can become sick if they are either missing certain nutrients or if they get too much of others. Unless you consult a board certified Veterinary Nutritionist who can come up with an appropriate homemade diet for Kaira, I recommend feeding her a commercial cat food formulated for adult cats. There is nothing wrong with feeding normal cat food, in fact, they are much safer and preferred over homemade diets. A significant amount of research goes into formulating cat foods and making sure they are complete and balanced. I hope this is helpful!
