Why does my kitten have growing marks on its face? Is it ringworm?

Hi there. I would be very suspicious that those areas may be ringworm. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. If they agree they will likely put him on an oral medication and possibly a medicated shampoo. Please practice good hygiene with this kitten as ring worm is contagious to people and other animals. Poor Mabel. This could be several different things like ringworm, a bacterial infection, a viral infection, mange, an immune reaction and more. I would have your vet take a look at her to see what it may be. They will be able to get her started on the proper meds to help it heal. They may also recommend to have her tested for feline leukemia and feline aids. If she is positive for one of these things, it is good to know. These are not something that she needs to be euthanized for but it is a good thing to know so you know to keep her indoors and away from other cats if possible. I’m sorry your little kitten is having a problem. It is not possible to decide if this skin issue is a bacterial or fungal infection from the photo. Your kitten should see a vet ASAP in order to properly diagnose it. Due to the very young age and small size, it is important to know exactly what type of infection it is, what medication is safe and the proper dosages. The veterinarian can also give a good general exam and possibly check for intestinal parasites as the kitten appears to have a round bloated belly. Persian kittens are very prone to ringworm, a fungal infection. I suggest you take Lily to your veterinarian for a skin exam. She is due for vaccinations anyway so show the skin lesion to your vet. Your vet will want to look at the lesion with a black light and/or do a brush test and try to grow the fungus as a diagnostic to determine if it is indeed a fungal infection. As long there is no definitive diagnosis, please make sure you wash your hands after petting your cat, as ringworm is contagious to people.

Poor guy. Ringworm is not always infectious 100% of the time, and usually only infects pets and people that have a weakened immune system, so this could still very well be ringworm. However another possibility is that Roman has a mite issue causing the hair loss. Demodexx mites usually don't cause pruritis (itching) and create pinpoint areas of hair loss, which can later develop into secondary bacterial skin infections. I would recommend getting this area tested through your vet with a simple skin scrape/cytology and fungal culture (if needed) to determine the underlying cause. Once you know what is causing this then your vet can prescribe the correct medication(s) to treat it. Hopefully Roman gets some resolve for his skin condition soon. Best wishes.

This is very suspicious of ringworm (a fungal infection of the skin). This could also be due to a yeast or bacteria infection, but it's much more likely to be ringworm. . It's best to get it diagnosed by a veterinarian, because ringworm can spread to different parts of the body and can spread to other animals and people. Also, the more involved the infection, the longer it will take to clear. Ace will need prescription antifungal medication in order to clear this and will also need medicated baths. For now, I recommend separating Ace from your other animals and washing your hands anytime you touch him. Your veterinarian will be able to get you some more info at the time of exam.
