Is my 3-month-old Persian kitten's dry, scaling skin ringworm?

It looks like Bunny has a skin infection. It may be bacterial, but most likely it is a fungal infection known as ringworm. If that is the case, it is contagious to any other animal and the people in your home. Bunny should go back to a veterinarian to be diagnosed properly and get the appropriate prescription medication. It is important that you wash your hands after handling him, change clothes after picking him up if you have other animals to handle.

I can't quite tell from the picture but based on your description one thing I would consider would be a fungal infection (ringworm). This is fairly common in kittens. Another possibility is a bacterial skin infection. I would make An appointment with your veterinarian so they can take a look at dusky's skin. There are very simple tests for ringworm if that is a concern for them (they can look at skin with a black light as a screen and can collect fur for a fungal culture) and they can prescribe medication as indicated. The symptoms you have described do not fit with a fungal infection like ringworm. The skin appears unkempt all over. Jessy may have light sensitivity, which can happen with a number of diseases, such as tick-borne disease, autoimmune diseases, kidney disease, etc. I am so sorry, but without being able to examine Jessy and run blood work, I am not sure how to help you. Some of these diseases benefit from steroids, but in some cases, steroids could make things worse. He really needs to be evaluated by a vet.

The hairloss area beneath the eye could certainly be a dermatophyte (ringworm) lesion, but it is also possible that it could be due to excessive tearing/discharge from the eyes that is resulting in irritation in the area. This could also be contributing to the nasal crusting. Upper respiratory infections (URI) are common in young kittens and can cause ocular (eye) discharge and nasal discharge, with intermittent sneezing and/or coughing. Ringworm lesions are typically itchy but not always. Be on the lookout for any additional hairless or crusting lesions to appear elsewhere on the body, and also if any similar lesions appear on any humans in contact with Rayder, as ringworm is highly contagious. It would be best to have him visit his veterinarian for a thorough physical examination to rule-out a potential URI and perform a dermatophyte culture if indicated.

With this breed and the signs I would be worried about ringworm. Persian cats and other long-haired breeds are prone to this type of fungal infection and in fact the mother may have it and be what's called an asymptomatic carrier. I recommend practicing strict hygiene protocols with handling the kittens and discussing with your veterinarian if they feel they should be testing for ringworm. I agree with your veterinarian that this is unlikely to be a side effect of the medication previously given.
