Is my kitten developing normally? She seems immature and suckles.

Both dogs and cats are known to use their mouth on their own genitals. Generally speaking, this isn't considered pathologic. Unless you are seeing it happening all day, which could be an indicate of some type of pain or infection, I wouldn't be terribly concerned about it. As for your hand, as long as the behavior isn't bothersome to you (assuming it isn't painful), then I also wouldn't let that keep me at night either. As you said, Squirt is still just a baby. I find that cats do generally do better in at least pairs, as they can socialize better and will do better during times when they are left alone. Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your new babies! I adopted brother and sister kittens a few years ago. My male also displayed this behavior on his sister (as well as one of the dogs), but that behavior had improved by the time he was 6 months old. There isn't anything inherently abnormal about the behavior, and it's really only a problem if the female decides it's a problem, so I don't know that I would worry about it. I suspect that it will decrease quite a bit as he gets older and more settled in your house. The only other caveat that I will give you is that some cats will also do that on (especially wool) blankets and sweaters to the point that they chew/suck a hole in the fabric, so be on the lookout for that behavior. This is a common thing in kittens that were weaned a little too early. They find it comforting since it is similar to nursing. Most kittens will outgrow it; make sure Jojo has plenty of play time and interaction with other cats or humans. I see that Kiki is still a young kitten. This behavior is thought to be a carryover from nursing, especially if the kitten is taken from him mother too soon. Many cats tend to outgrow the behavior by the time they are a year old. It's not bad for his health, and he should hopefully outgrow it.

I would not allow this behavior and I would not consider it "normal". It is surely due to her being weaned too early. She would do this to any nipple she finds - male or female or even a different species. Please don't allow her to do this. If you stop the behavior now she will likely stop doing it. Best wishes.

Kameo is adorable! She may not get much bigger if she has not grown much in the past 6 months. This is not normal per se for cats, but may be common for runts of the litter. Nutrition may help with this as well as ruling out any underlying medical conditions heart, liver, kidney issues through a throrough physical examination by a veterinarian + screening bloodwork. A top rated food that I recommend for a cat of this age is Royal Canin Kitten dry and wet food. It is highly palatable (most cats love the taste) and provides better nutrition than many other commercially available brands of cat food. I recommend transitioning gradually over the course of a week into the Royal Canin Kitten diet (1st 2 days 75% old food 25% new, 2nd 2 days 50%/50% old/new and last 2-3 days 25% old/75% new). You will likely notice an improvement in Kameo's coat and skin health on the Royal canin diet. If she does not grow significantly by the time she is a year of age....continue her on the Royal canin adult cat food, maintain her at a good body condition score (not too far or too thin), and give her lots of love! Kittens like people come in all shapes and sizes!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This can be normal for long-haired kittens. As she grows and gets her adult coat, it will start looking less silly. Playful biting is also normal for kittens. I recommend getting her a toy or two that is appropriate for her to bite and claw at.
