My kitten has crusty ears. Should I worry or can I fix it myself?

Beans has some sort of nasal discharge, possibly blood, possibly dirt-encrusted. If he is not eating well, sneezing, or showing any other signs of illness I recommend a vet visit as he may need to be on antibiotics. He may as well have an infectious cat disease that could potentially be transmitted to other cats, so it is important to get him checked out.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria but fungal infections are possible as well). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). There could be several reasons behind Copper’s skin issues. You definitely want to rule out a parasite such as ringworm (which humans can get) or mites. Ask your veterinarian if these have been ruled out at this point. If not, look into testing for these. Crustes around the eyes can indicate a viral infection. Ask your veterinarian if they are suspicious of that. Sometimes these problems can be related to food. I recommend to feed a high-quality diet such as Royal Cann Persian kitten food. It has additives and supplements for coat health for the breed. Royal Canin food is good in general if you cannot find the specific Persian variety. This could be an infection-bacterial or perhaps fungal. It could also be due to a flea allergy. I would recommend keeping Jorfy on a flea preventative monthly to rule out a flea allergy but also have him see his veterinarian. Your veterinarian may do a skin scraping and/or fungal culture to rule out bacterial infection or a fungal infection. He may need antibiotics, antifungal medications, or other medications as needed. Oh that doesn't look good! It could be Coconut has a skin infection, mites, or allergies. I'd take him into the vet first thing in the morning to have this examined, diagnosed, and treated. Best of luck.
