My kitten ate a mask string. Is peeing outside the litter box related?

From what I can see in the photo, it appears to be a scratch under the eye and by the mouth. If he was recently put outside, he may have injured himself. They appear to be only minor scratches, but you should make sure they don't appear to be getting worse or developing any swelling or drainage, as these are signs of infection. As for taking longer to urinate, this is more concerning to me. One potential cause is a condition called FLUTD (or feline lower urinary tract disease). For reasons that we do not fully understand, cats can get inflammation in the urinary tract that can lead to swelling and even complete blockage. This is an emergency, because the bladder can rupture. Often these cats are placed on special diets to help control the symptoms. Yes, I would bring Pigeon into the vet. This can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones, and the only way to know for sure is to have her checked out by a vet, do bloodwork, and a urinalysis. Because she was using the box previously and now isn't, that can also be another sign something is wrong. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. Vomiting in cats can be due to many reasons including gastric upset, obstructions (something stuck in the gut where it shouldn't be), constipation, pain and stress. Peeing outside the litter box can be due to a medical condition (urinary tract infection, metabolic disease like diabetes, crystals, or interstitial cystitis). Peeing outside the box can also be behavioral if the box isn't cleaned, if there aren't enough litter boxes (# of cats + 1 = # of litter boxes), or if she isn't feeling well and she is trying to tell you. Also, since your cat is unspayed, she is at risk for pyometra (infected uterus). If she is still bright and happy and wanting to play and eat I would try changing the litter, getting another box, and seeing if this behavior goes away. Alternatively you can bring her to a vet and get her urine checked- this is ideal. If she is not bright, not wanting to eat, and the vomiting continues and she continues to not use the litter I would have her seen right away by a veterinarian as there could be something seriously wrong. Also, since she is unspayed, she could be marking, I would recommend getting her spayed once this illness is cleared up. I hope she feels better soon.

There are a few reasons why Harley and Marley may be urinating outside their litter box. Certainly things like a urinary tract infection are possible. Crystals in the urine are another reason this could occur. I would recommend to make an appointment with their vet to have their urine tested for infection/crystals. Behavioral issues are another reason for not using the litter box. Changes in the type of litter, the litter box itself or the location of the box can all effect behavior. The litter box needs to be cleaned daily. In general, cats prefer a clay based clumping litter in a large, uncovered litter box. They also want the box in a quiet and private location. Cats do not want to be cornered in the box by other cats or dogs so make sure it feels safe for the kittens. Lastly, adding a second or even third litter box can help. If Bailey isn't eating well he may need a veterinary exam. He could have burns in his mouth from chewing on cords or may have a GI foreign body if he plays with strings or other things he finds. If he is vomiting at all, straining to defecate or acting sick he needs a vet visit asap.

If it becomes more frequent or if you are starting to see some signs of blood in the urine then i would definitely recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it checked. if you see him straining to urinate this would also be a sign to take him to the vet quite urgently.
