Why is my cat straining to urinate with bubbly pee outside the litter box?

This could be a one time accident, however it could be an early sign of FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease) which may also be referred to as FIC (Feline idiopathic cystitis). Other causes of abnormal urinations include bladder stones, urinary tract infections, and crystals in the urine. If you note any more of these behavior, it will be beneficial to have Felix examined sooner rather than later. Some cats may develop severe inflammation of their bladder which can lead to an obstruction. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian. He could have something mild like a urinary tract infection but he can also have stones or crystals in his urine that is causing discomfort. They can check a urine to see if it is an infection or if there are crystals and he may need an X-ray if they are suspecting stones. Male cats can develop a urinary obstruction, which is an emergency condition that needs to be evaluated right away, as it can be fatal. Otherwise, cats can develop bladder crystals, a urinary tract infection, or cystitis (an inflammation of the bladder). If there is a chance Vito has a urinary obstruction, I would have him seen immediately. Good luck!

Poor guy. He likely has a urinary tract infection or cystitis (inflamed bladder usually due to stress). I would recommend taking him to your vet for a urine test to determine which is present so that he is treated appropriately. As long as he is otherwise acting normal and able to urinate at will, then it isn't considered an emergency at this point. Getting him seen on Monday or the day after should be ok. He may not be marking his territory, he may have a medical illness like feline idiopathic cystitis (stress can be a factor in that, and since you have had a change in schedule, that could be stress for him) or bladder stones. He will need to see a vet for this problem. If he appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until tomorrow morning. If he appears lethargic, ill or distressed, he is straining to go but can't, he yeowls when peeing, or if the urine appears very bloody, then he should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed him wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure he drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. I hope this helps!

Urinary obstruction is a very dangerous and serious concern so Ziggy should be examined by a veterinarian right away. These signs could also be a result of Feline lower urinary tract disease which also requires emergency medical attention as it can result in a urinary blockage. After Ziggy is examined he may need supportive care like IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medications. If he does have a urinary obstruction he will need a urinary catheter placed to remove the obstruction. One possibility is that your car has a UTI, this is more common in female cats but does occur in males. Another possibility is that your cat could have bladder stones. Stones are very irritating and cause discomfort especially when trying to urinate. A third possibility is that your cat has a stress condition called FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease). This condition is common in young male cats who live indoors. A stressful event in their environment leads to inflammation and the symptoms you are seeing. I would recommend having your cat seen by your veterinarian so that they can check for a UTI. They will likely collect a urine sample and look for signs of infection.
