My 10-month-old kitten is always hungry and has a big bloated belly.

Wizzy is so cute! He may have intestinal worms causing the swollen belly, those are common in kittens. Give him a deworming treatment. He doesn't need nutritional supplements, his kitten food will provide all the nutrients he needs. To help him wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality kitten formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with kitten formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until he is eating the dry kitten food only. Best of luck.

Sometimes it is just their immature anatomy, sometimes it is internal parasites, especially roundworms. If she is eating a wet kitten food, she is probably getting a fair amount of liquid every day. You usually will not see such a young kitten drinking water consistently. It would be a good idea to take the kitten to your veterinarian for a fecal analysis & proper health check. They will determine what, if any worms the kitten has, & administer the proper medication. Take care.

Hi and thank you for asking this question about your new kitten, Love. Yes, this type of vocalization is very normal in a kitten. They can be very communicative. If her belly seems very full and hard, she may be overeating and getting too much food at one time. Kittens also can have a round belly appearance from having intestinal parasites. I would recommend to take a fecal sample to her first veterinary visit when you schedule one so they can check her for parasites. Ideally you want the sample to be the same day as her appointment. Kittens do much better if they can eat small, frequent meals rather then two larger meals per day. This is because their stomachs are small and cannot hold a large amount of food at one time. If you can feed her 3-4 times/day 1/4 can of kitten wet food or 2-3 tbspns of dry food, this is better than two larger meals and easier for her to digest.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At almost 9 weeks old feeding her that small of an amount that frequently is not needed. I think feeding her 3 times a day until 4 months old is fine then after that twice daily. At this age she should have started vaccines and had her stool checked for parasites. A big belly can occur after eating (but goes down), from intestinal parasites and if there is abnormal fluid in the belly (from FIP). If Noushmc hasn't been to the Vet she should be seen to start her routine care. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Cats often have a fat pad around their belly, which when palpated fells like fat that isn't actually in their belly, but on the outside skin area. If Storm's belly is actually big, then intestinal parasites are often the cause at this age; however you will almost always see loose or soft stool associated with this. A fecal exam and appropriate dewormer is the answer to this issue if the case. Based on your photo however, everything seems to look normal for Storm, so its best to palpate his belly or have your vet feel his belly to determine if additional testing and treatment are needed. It would be worth having him see his veterinarian for a physical exam to determine his body condition score and to ensure that he is overall healthy. This will give you an idea if he is at a healthy weight or not. You ideally what to be able to feel his ribs and for him to have a defined waist. Puzzle food toys are a great way to slow down his eating and keep him mentally stimulated. Cats are hunters by nature so hiding food around the house will encourage this instinct as well. Finally, be sure to accurately measure his food daily so you know the total amount he is receiving. I hope this information helps!

It is possible Coco has intestinal parasites. You would need to submit a stool sample to your veterinarian for confirmation. A physical exam would be recommended to rule out other causes. If intestinal parasites are diagnosed, your veterinarian can dispense or administer the appropriate dewormer. It may need to be repeated in 2, 4 and 6 weeks. He should be eating a quality kitten food. Fish alone is not a balanced diet for a growing kitten. Discontinue the milk as well since it may cause stomach upset.
