Is it okay for my kitten and adult cat to share one litter box?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 509 lbs

I recently adopted a cat, he is now 2 months old. I have one more at home, who is already 3 years old. The younger one started to want to make necessities in the box of the older one, and then now they have made the 2 in the same box. Is there a problem?

Ther are no health problems, however you may find that they are happier to have more than one litter box available to use especially as the little one grows into an adult cat. I would still give them the option of having a second litter tray available to use, so it willl be easier to make sure one of them at least is always clean and ready to use if needed.
