Is it safe to kiss my cat if I have cavities? Will they get them?

The gum around that tooth looks a bit red and swollen, so I'm concerned it could be a problem with her tooth. Cats do get holes in their teeth, but they are generally the same color as the tooth and are the result of tooth resorption rather than decay as you would see with a cavity. It may be also that something is stuck on that tooth. I do think it's worth getting checked out by a vet, so give her vet a call to make her an appointment. Best of luck.

As you can see on the product, this does have the seal of the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council), but when I look closer at the recommendations they have, this product seems to be better for dogs, than cats. It is absolutely safe for cats, but if you want to use one truly recommended by the VOHC for cats, then look for Healthymouth Toothpast/Brush Kit Combination for cats. This is the only toothpaste type product they recommend specifically for cats & this was of February, 2022. If the cats are all healthy and don't have any illnesses such as FIP/FIV then it should be fine. However if you have a cat that is ill or FIP/FIV positive, it can be spread through the saliva/bite wounds, so it would be best to make sure they do not share a bowl.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am not sure what your question is but if you are worried about him losing a tooth, it is not uncommon. I would recommend the vet take a look at his teeth to see if any more need to come out. It is ok if Carter loses teeth because he can still eat without them. But if there are more diseased teeth he needs to have them extracted to prevent pain and further decay. If the vet says his teeth look good, I would recommend daily brushing with cat toothpaste to prevent further tartar build up. Good luck and kisses to Carter!

I think it's a great idea for you to start brushing her teeth, and that can help with the gingivitis. Be sure to use a pet toothpaste, as human ones are toxic for cats. You can get a pet toothbrush and paste at a pet store. I'd brush her teeth three times a week. I hope this helps!

Great question! If the kitten has fleas or intestinal parasites , you could bring those things home. I would recommend washing your hands and changing your clothes before coming in contact with your cat. Otherwise you should be fine. Kisses to Lucy!

This should not be a problem, as a matter of fact, this kind of close contact with animals at a young age can help your baby develop a strong immune system and be less likely to develop pet allergies. Always keep an eye on them just to be safe, but if they love each other I say let them enjoy each other's company and companionship.
