My 10-year-old cat with diabetes is losing teeth. Is he okay?

Even though her teeth looked great two months ago, most dental disease occurs underneath the gum line. Therefore, the gums and teeth may have looked great but there may have been the beginning of disease under the gum line. I recommend taking Aevie to your veterinarian to get another assessment and likely discuss a dental cleaning with dental radiographs and extractions of that canine too plus any additional teeth that need to be extracted. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Louis! His dental disease and need for extractions are not associated with him being a diabetic. Dental disease is the number one disease in the US among cats and dogs. Most of the dental cleanings and extractions I do are in NON-diabetic pets. Having the disease teeth removed is very important, especially in Louis. A source of infection anywhere in his body could make a diabetic (they are generally immunosuppressed) very sick. No, teeth falling out is never normal and always indicates disease (which can happen at any age). I recommend to have Coco Bella examined by the veterinarian so that she can get appropriate treatment. Bad teeth can lead to internal disease and pain. Hello. I am sorry Beanie is having these issues. Cats can get an auto-immune disease where the immune system basically attacks the teeth. Since the teeth are so strong, the gingiva (the gums) get red and sore as an 'innocent by-stander'. The treatment is either medications life-long to decrease the immune response, which has many side-effects and would leave Beanie immuno-compromised her whole life, or to do a full mouth extraction, where you take out all of the teeth and Beanie would wet food for the rest of her life. Although this sounds dramatic, it is done under anesthetic and they are actually very comfortable afterwards and tolerate this life very well. If you want to be sure this is the disease process that is going on, you can have a visit with a dental specialist. Best of luck to you and Beanie.

Yes, losing teeth can definitely make Tippy less playful. This could be painful to him, and he may be suffering from dental disease causing him to lose his teeth. It's not normal for a 5 year old cat to lose teeth, so I would have Tippy seen by a vet first thing in the morning. If he is suffering from dental disease, he may benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing.

I would recommend a visit to your veterinarian to look into Tommy's mouth. If this is the case, Tommy would likely benefit from a dental cleaning which includes scaling, polishing and sometimes xrays of the teeth with extractions! Good luck and I hope he feels better!

Poor Smokey! Have him seen by a vet. He needs a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing, and the vet can check to see if there are any more loose teeth that need to come out. I’d call his vet this weekend to make him an appointment. I hope this helps.
