How to safely introduce a stray cat with hair loss to my cats?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

This pertains to a stray cat that I feed. She is lovey and friendly. I want to take her in however, she's missing a little of her hair. She's outside all the time so I assume its fleas. Don't want to expose her to my indoor cats before finding out if its treatable .. I think her tempermant would make her a good house pet for my others.

Prior to bringing her into the house with your other cats I would recommend she be evaluated by a veterinarian. You would want her tested for any diseases she could transmit to your cats, such as feline leukemia or feline AIDS. If she has fleas or mites, I would recommend treating her prior to coming home. At the same time, she can have her skin lesion looked at. Finally, I would give her a rabies shot as well. Good luck!
