Why do my indoor cats have worms and when will the dead ones be gone?

That looks like a roundworm. You need to deworm a cat every two weeks when they have worms due to the life cycle of the worm. The deworming treatment will not kill eggs. So the first treatment kills the adult worms present while the second one kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming. Give Max a deworming treatment now, another in two weeks, and then another two weeks after that to be safe.

This is not uncommon to see. The dewormer works by paralyzing the worms and they are sometimes only partially affected by the drug. The fact that they are coming out shows that it's working to a certain degree; and the worms will likely die soon. No need to worry. Keep up with the deworming schedule as prescribed by your vet and she should be rid of them soon.

Sometimes the worms die and just come out like mucus in the stool, not full worms. If you gave the proper dose I’m sure it was effective. Often you will not see the dead worms in the feces unless your pet had a very severe infection. Sometime dead worms will get digested or come out in the same color as the feces. The worms should be dead pretty soon (24 hrs) after worming.

Profender is absorbed rapidly through the skin into the bloodstream and ultimately reaches the gastrointestinal tract where it is effective in killing susceptible parasites (roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms). Profender will kill susceptible parasites that are present in the intestine at the time of treatment. Cats should receive treatments every 3 months and kittens should receive treatment at 8 and 12 weeks and every 3 months thereafter to prevent future infestations. Reinfection can occur from the environment and contact with other infected pets. She may not vomit any worms or pass them out of the stools. It depends what stage of the life cycle the worms are in and which species of worm you are referring to. If you don't see any worms it does not mean it is not working.
