What should I do if I find a hurt and hungry stray cat family?

That is so lovely of you to want to help the mother and her kittens! I would definitely catch them as soon as possible, and bring them to a vet. The vet can do a health check on all of them, and can do blood tests and a urinalysis on the mother to check on her organ fuctions and to see if she has any diseases. Then the vet can schedule a spay for when the kittens are weaned, and vaccines as well. The vet can give you an idea of how old the kittens are, and can give you tips on how to help them wean. The first step is to catch them, however, and I would do that as soon as you can. So great of you to help them!

You can always call the animal shelter/ animal control near you. Perhaps you could just offer the cat food off your property? Start with just a little off your property, then move closer and closer to the neighbor's? Or, if she is friendly toward you and you can handle her, you could consider trying to make her your official pet. In most cases, if you can get her into the vet for a checkup, a vaccine or two, and a microchip-ideally, then she is yours and you can claim her as your own outdoor cat. If it is possible I would take this cat to the SPCA or a veterinarian. This wound needs to be cleaned up and the cat needs antibiotics. If you take her to a veterinarian you would have to be able to medicate her without her running away from you and to do it safely. If you would like to continue to take care of her I would also recommend a Rabies vaccination for her to have her protected especially since you will be handling her. It may take some times before the cats become comfortable. Cats have been on their ownfor a while may develop a healthy fear of humans and it will take some time to gain their trust. I recommend to try to associate yourself with food. Get something that is very tasty and high value to the cats and sit quietly nearby while they eat. Gradually work your way up to hand feeding them or touching them while they eat. Most cats instinctually want to play so try to entice them with toys. If they will play with you, they will usually bond with you as well. I’m not sure if you have veterinary access but the one who is not eating could be ill. Make sure to deworm both cats as well. You should be able to borrow a Have a Heart trap or other safe trap to catch her. Then you can take her in the trap to get treated. Put food inside the trap and leave it near to where she is. When it’s dark and she’s hungry she should go inside and won’t be able to escape. This Is safe for both you and her. Once she’s treated they may spay her and release her back to your area. Sounds like the first thing I would do is try and deworm all these kitties, as this could very well be the reason for their diarrhea / general GI issues. There are many different oral dewormer products, some of which are pills while others are liquids. If you can't touch them but you are confident that you can feed each one individually (without another cat snagging food), you can sneak Drontal tablets into each of the cat's daily feeding in some wet food. The dose may be slightly different depending on weight - the product is over the counter with the doses written on the back of the bottle. Unfortunately, if this is the not the case and you can't be sure who is getting what, there really is no safe / fool proof way to treat this sort of thing. There are liquid products but you won't be sure if they got it all, or if they will take it at all because of the taste of the product. My suggestion would be to put out humane traps, catch them one by one, and deworm them this way. This would also give you the opportunity to get them to a low - cost spay / neuter facility to be fixed if that is an option. Hope this makes sense.
