How do I help my 3-week-old bottle-fed kitten eliminate waste?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

A kitten was brought to us and is considered abandoned. He is believed to be about 3 weeks and we are bottle feeding him, but not sure how to help him eliminate. Is there something we should try before taking him in the the veterinary clinic?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Barry. The mother cat will lick the kitten's anal area and genitals each time the kitten finishes nursing to stimulate urination and defecation. You can try to replicate this by using warm water on a cotton ball. If this does not work, then he will need to see a veterinarian. Good luck!
