My hamster has a movable lump and loose stool after amoxicillin.

It has the appearance of an abscess or other infection. She likely needs antibiotics for treatment. These require an exam with your veterinarian before they can be dispensed. In the meantime, keep the area clean and dry. The most you can do is use diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) to cleanse the area daily. Monitor for lethargy or loss of appetite.

Hamsters are good at hiding illnesses and pain because they are prey animals, so he may be feeling pretty badly without seeing obvious signs. You should have Rosie seen by a vet to determine exactly what the growth is, they may take a small sample with a fine needle to send off as a biopsy. If it is an abscess, it may be drained and antibiotics dispensed. If it a mass, benign or malignant, you can discuss treatment options with your veterinarian.

This could be an impacted cheek, an abscess or a tumor. Your vet may want to sedate Neville in order to properly look into the cheek without causing him too much stress. If Neville has an impaction, the vet will remove the food and check the pocket and teeth for injury or reasons for the impaction. If he finds an abscess, which could easily occur when some spiky food causes an injury, he will likely drain and flush it. As for a tumor, he may suggest to remove it or not. That will depend on the type of tumor and the size and also on the age of your hamster.

I would need to see it to confirm but it is probably a tumor, in hamsters these tumors are usually malignant and not treatable, surgery is a possibility but it would personally not recommend it. other than that there is very little that can be done, if the lump ulcerates then antibiotic treatment can be attempted to treat the secondary infection.

Hi and thanks for posting! From the pictures, the stools appears to be somewhat firm, formed, but perhaps a little on the softer side which can be normal if this is his usual #2. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic which can cause softer or looser stools to form. if you are worried, you can always bring in a sample to your veterinarian for closer inspection.
