What are good alternative ways to give a mouse oral medicine?

I have 3 cats and they generally hate their medication as well. The easiest way to go about this is to grab a towel and burrito wrap the kitten in there to trap his legs and prevent him from scratching you, then scruff him (grab the back of his neck with one hand). Thank for reaching out about Daisy. Self inducted (scratching the head) can be caused by mites, bacterial dermatitis, fungal skin infections, ear infections, auto-immune diseases, just to name a few. Antibiotics are usually included in the treatment plan, as secondary bacterial infections from scratching are common. But is another of above mentioned causes, that has to be treated also. A skin scrape and examination under the microscope, might help with answers. As for getting the oral medication in, can you mix it with something palpatable that can be then ingested (bread, apple sauce)? Good luck.

Enrofloxacin would work best in these cases. Any veterinarian can diagnose and treat such a presentation, which is likely to be caused by a respiratory tract infection/inflammation. I would strongly recommend a check up at your local veterinarian.

Poor Graham! It looks like the skin condition was very severe, and requires pain medication. Placing the metacam in a treat that you are sure will be consumed, is a good idea. I also recommend trimming Graham's nails so that she cannot cause further trauma by scratching, and applying a small amount of SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment to the wounds to promote healing. Hello. You will need to get just a little bit tough with Pookie. You need to scruff her & tilt her head back so that her nose is pointed straight up. This will actually relax her jaw a bit where you can introduce the syringe into the side of her mouth. Drip the Metacam in & then praise her well. Hi, Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the cat burrito method (wrapping in a blanket) isn't working you can try putting the liquid medication in canned cat food. Put it in a small amount then feed him the rest. Otherwise make sure he is really wrapped tightly and all legs are wrapped up and the towel is to the back of his head it doing the towel method. You could also ask the vet for a pill or injectable form of the medication if available. Good luck

I'm not sure what type of medication he is taking, but some options would include mixing in some canned food, tuna, or other special treat. If he won't eat it this way and won't allow you to medicate him by putting the medication directly in his mouth, you could ask your vet about having it compounded into a tasty treat or liquid suspension that might be easier to give.
