I found a friendly stray. What's wrong and how can I care for it?

I would recommend that you check in with a veterinarian who can take a closer look and recommend therapy accordingly. This is likely an ear infection and I am afraid that there is likely an underlying allergy causing him to scratch a lot and continue to cause further trauma to the ear. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated as soon as possible as this is likely causing him a lot of discomfort. They would be able to diagnose this and start therapy. Medications such as steroids may help decrease the itch. You may use the e-collar to prevent further self-trauma. Best of luck!

While mange is possible, other diseases such as allergies for example need to also be considered and these are treated differently. Best of luck!

Hello. This kitty is definitely experiencing some discomfort in the paw. It does look a little swollen to me. It may be related to the overall skin condition this cat has which looks like mange, or there could have been a previous injury leaving the cat with some soreness in the paw. If the mange is in the paw, then this would cause the problem. If you can have this cat examined, a proper diagnosis can be made & the right treatment started. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Paolo if possible to rule out an infection. You can always try an ear cleanser to see if this helps. It is difficult to say for sure what is causing the hair loss and itching on the back of the ear based on the photo alone. However, I would assume that this is likely related to a potential ear infection. I would recommend taking Ollie in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for sending along pictures but they are a little hard to make out clearly. This could be an infection-bacterial or perhaps fungal. It could also be due to a flea allergy. I would recommend keeping Jorfy on a flea preventative monthly to rule out a flea allergy but also have him see his veterinarian. Your veterinarian may do a skin scraping and/or fungal culture to rule out bacterial infection or a fungal infection. He may need antibiotics, antifungal medications, or other medications as needed.
