Why won't my 6-week-old feral kitten eat? Should I get formula?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1lb

2 days ago I found a feral kitten. He was aggressive at first (he is about 6 weeks I think I'm not sure) and ran super fast, but gained trust super fast and now runs up to me and purs when I let him. He ate normally and drank good on the first and second day, but now won't eat. He drinks water normally and acts normally and is litter trained already. He used to eat wet food and dry food now only drinks water. I force fed and got him to eat a little. Should I buy formula? He grooms himself too.

Hi, it looks like you're offering both canned and dry food which is great. Little kittens don't eat very much, so maybe he is just full. He may also have parasites like intestinal worms which make him feel full. If he doesnt eat tomorrow, you should take him in to a vet. Good for you for adopting him.

    Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congrats on your new kitten! Combo is a great name!

    You can try supplementing some canned food or try a different dry food. I like Purina kitten chow. Make sure he has been dewormed and his vaccines are up to date. If he is growing and isn't too thin and isn't vomiting or having diarrhea he may be fine and just need time to adjust to his new home.

I would recommend that you have the kitten examined by a vet if she isn't interested in eating food. You can try a variety of wet kitten foods, or mix dry kitten food with water or kitten milk replacer (not cow or other types of milk). At 6 weeks of age, she needs an FVRCP vaccine.

However, it does not sound like he is eating the formula you have well. In this case, it will be fine to just offer him a kitten version. You can try adding warm water to the food. It may make it more appealing to him. If his appetite stays low, he will need to see a veterinarian to ensure there is not an illness present. I hope this information helps!

At 5 weeks Baby should be old enough to start eating some solid food. You can try mixing some canned kitten food with some kitten formula like KMR and putting it in a shallow dish. If she still won’t eat I would recommend seeing a veterinarian to determine what might be wrong. They can also teach you how to tube feed if necessary.

Hi there. An 8-week-old kitten should be eating regular solid food at this point, not formula. If he isn't eating on his own, you can get canned kitten food and mix it with a little bit of water to form a slurry, and then use an oral dosing syringe to gently put it in his mouth.

At six weeks of age, he will be fully weaned and does not need formula. Keep feeding him the wet kitten food, and you can start introducing small amounts of dry kitten for him as well. Give him the same brand of dry food as the wet food. He is not too young to be adopted out. I would consider six weeks the minimum age to be adopted out. I hope this helps!

Why won't my 11-week kitten eat cat food, only formula/sweets?
I would recommend to start weaning him off the formula and offering the cat food more and more. He is old enough to eat dry kitten food and he isn't getting what he needs with just the formula. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
