Is it normal for a new feral kitten to hide? Will she come out?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Curl | Female | 3 lbs

We have had Scruff inside for 9 days .she is 3 months old. Feral, very friendly .she hides under the bef constantly unless coming out to eat, poop. She will come out and play if I sit in the bedroom with her. We have another cat who tolerates Scruff abd A Husky who loves cats. Is this normal for Scruff to be under the bed , will she ever come out and join us?? I have never had a feral kitten... Help!! She did vo to the vet and got her shots and tested for feline leukemia (negative).

Hi there. The socialization time for kittens is about 8-16 weeks. So if you are still within that window then I think you may be able to make some big progress. However, if she is older then she may still learn to trust you and be less scared, but she probably will never be as social and accepting of humans. Be slow and patient and she will come around! Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
