My feral mom cat has an eye infection, but I can't use drops. Help!

Poor kittens! Eye infections can be viral or bacterial. Unfortunately you’re not likely to clear an eye infection with at home care. Just like with humans, these guys require antibiotic eyedrops which you will need to get from the veterinarian. I recommend to call your clinic and make an appointment ideally today. Eye infections in young kittens can become serious and cause permanent damage to the corneas. Bring the whole litter and the mother. Certainly cleaning off the teats and the rest of the environment will help but all the kittens have been exposed at this point. Unfortunately, you would need confirmation of the infection from a vet, as well as a prescription from them for the antibiotic. Both respiratory and viral infections can cause problems like this. If she can't be transported to the vet, you may see if you can humanely trap her and have the vet sedate her for care while there, or if there is a local animal control/society that can help catch her to provide care.

Eye infections will need to be seen and treated by a veterinarian as the cat may have a viral or bacterial infection of the eye which may need antibiotics or other eye medications as necessary. By far the most common cause of corneal ulcers is herpesvirus; so although antibiotic drops are usually indicated to treat secondary bacterial infections or prevent infection, Kit might not be improving because she has viral eye disease. Some vets will try oral antiviral medication or topical antiviral drops. Herpesvirus can be very difficult to treat and it never goes away completely. You may want to ask about referral to an ophthalmologist for the best treatment.

That is a tough situation since you can't treat a pet unless you can catch them. You may try trapping her somehow and keeping her contained until the treatment is ended. Adding Lysine (a supplement for cats) may also help but will not be as effective as the eye drops. Best of luck.

Given that it has been infected for over a year, there may no longer be any sight in the eye, and it may be best to have the eye removed depending on the severity of the infection. It certainly will be very painful to her. I would not recommend using the leftover eye cream on the eye, and if you can trap her, I would take her into a vet as soon as possible to have her eye examined.

First of all, if you didn't take her to your vet you need to do this so the eye can be checked first, it might be an eye injury or eye ulcer, in such a case the treatment will be different. Veterycin is an eye wash, it is not a medical drops and does not treat eye infections, if she has an infection she needs an antibiotic eye drops which you can get from your vet after he checks her eye.
