My female cat is mounting my male cat. Is she in heat or mating?

It is simply a product of being in heat that she will make these poses. She does not need to be mated. It is very likely considering​ her contact with the male cat that she will become pregnant, you should prepare for this.

Cats will tend to have a recurring heat cycle until they are bred, so if she isn't yet pregnant, she is likely to continue to have interest in the male, and the male in her. If you do not wish to have kittens, getting both your female spayed and your male neutered can prevent this, as well as reduce/stop the heat-related behaviors.

Cats are induced ovulators, which means mating with a male causes her ovaries to release eggs. So there is a possibility Manu could be pregnant. If you want to mate her, you can try to continue to introduce her to the Persian male, and I would bring her into the vet 45 days after that first time outside for x-rays to confirm if she's pregnant or not. Gorge is a very handsome boy! As I'm sure you've noticed, females display typical behaviors when they are in heat. These behaviors include being more physically affectionate, being more vocal, and lifting up on her back legs and moving her tail to one side when you rub her back by her tail. When you see those signs, put Gorge and her into a room together. She will allow him to mate with her if she is truly in heat. Please keep in mind, however, that mating her will not stop her from showing mating behaviors. Those will only pass if the mating results in a pregnancy, and even after she has kittens, she will go into heat again showing the same behaviors. The only way to truly stop her from having these behaviors is to have her spayed.

I have never heard of one cat killing another over mating issues, so you shouldn't need to worry about this :) However, I'm sure it is annoying for your female cat to have him constantly trying to mount her, and this can certainly lead to developing aggression issues between the cats over time. I would try to get your male kitty neutered as soon as possible, to help prevent this from continuing to happen. In the meantime, if he won't leave her alone, you may need to keep them separated until after he is neutered.

Hi and thanks for your request. Probably she is not accepting the male as she is not in heat or she is already pregnant. As said in a previous question, I would recommend to separate them as you suggested or castrate the males to avoid further unwanted pregnancies.

Cats don't get married. If the female is not in heat, then she will likely not be receptive to the male attempting to breed her and will show the behavior she is showing. You will have to wait until she is in heat to breed them. If you think there may be a health problem causing this, bringing both cats into your vet or a theriogenologist to have a breeding health exam done is best.
