My female cat is in heat but aggressive. Why won't she mate?

Hello, I would agree that her aggression means she probably does not like him or is coming out of heat and not interested in his advances. Keeping them separated when they cannot be monitored may be best to keep them from fighting. You could reintroduce her at the beginning of her next heat cycle if you are hoping for her to be receptive to mating. I hope this helps. The estrous cycle in cats has 4 stages: proestrus, estrus, interestrus, and anestrus. It is only in the second stage that the female is receptive to the male. This stage, estrus, typically lasts 4-6 days (up to 10). If your female is still in the first stage (proestrus) or has already passed out of the second stage of the cycle into the third stage (interestrus) she will not r be receptive to the male. If mating is attempted to early or late in the cycle, the queen will refuse to mate and often aggressively reject the male. A queen should be at least 12 to 18 months of age before a mating is attempted. At this age, she is physically and emotionally mature enough to successfully rear kittens. Breeding your cat is not a decision to make lightly. Spaying prevents unwanted pregnancies and eliminates the problems of cystic ovaries, false pregnancies, uterine infection, and irregular heat cycles. Spaying also reduces the frequency of mammary tumors. Female cats do not need a litter of kittens to be happy psychologically. Reputable breeders have their queens and toms health screened and genetically tested for deleterious health problems. As a breeder, you become responsible for the health of the queen throughout her pregnancy and kittening. You should be prepared to find high quality homes for each of the kittens and to take them back at any time, even years later should the need arise. Only if you are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to teh queen and all of her kittens should you consider breeding your queen.

It doesn't affect Samra in anyway, but her in heat behavior will be extremely annoying until her heat passes. Unfortunately cats cycle quickly in heat during certain times of the year, and this will happen over and over. I recommend having her spayed so you don't have to deal with this behavior anymore.

Cats will tend to have a recurring heat cycle until they are bred, so if she isn't yet pregnant, she is likely to continue to have interest in the male, and the male in her. If you do not wish to have kittens, getting both your female spayed and your male neutered can prevent this, as well as reduce/stop the heat-related behaviors.

If you are certain that Bella went into heat either one of them could have fertility issues. You should have them both examined by your veterinarian to make sure that they are in good overall health, and your vet might suggest some other tests to run. Uterine abnormalities, semen abnormalities, infections or even poor nutrition can play a role. If you did not actually see them breed it is possible that Bolt has a penile or testicular problem causing low testosterone. It’s also possible that although he is likely sexually mature that he is just not interested yet.

If Alsa is hissing and not allowing the males to breed she may not truly be in heat. I’m guessing this is her first heat cycle - she could also be a bit immature at this point and it might be better to wait until the next cycle. If she did mate once but then started hissing at the next make it’s also possible that she’s pregnant now depending on the timing between.

Aggression can often be a response to pain. I recommend getting her checked by your vet as soon as possible, especially since she just finished a heat cycle. She could have an infection that is making her uncomfortable and in turn making her lash out against the kitten. You vet may run some labwork, do a physical exam, and based on these results, will be better able to tell you what is going on with your cat and how to treat her from there.
