What dry food should I feed older long-haired cats with hairballs?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Male | neutered | 16 years and 9 months old | 10 lbs

My cats are 12 and 14 years old and I have celiac disease. They are both long haired Himalayans and develop large fur balls. I had a major disagreement with the vet and am not comfortable asking for a recommendation from her. Do you have any suggestions for an appropriate dry food?

A high quality food of science diet, royal canin, iams, or purina are great brands. Iams makes a hairball control. You can also purchase hairball medications/supplements and use your favorite food.
