My dog ate a kitchen sponge. Could tiny pieces cause an obstruction?

This is pretty big, it might cause problems either in the stomach if it stays there or in the intestines (blockage). You will need to monitor him for vomiting? Constipation and lack of appetite, if you see any of these symptoms- take him to the vet ASAP.

Luckily sponges are soft and can be moved more easily in the intestines, but this is concerning for a possible gastrointestinal impaction. It's not toxic though, so if it passes, then they should not cause any problems. Signs of an impaction include vomiting, not defecating, and depression/pain. If you notice any of this, then you should take Lucy to a vet immediately. Otherwise, the sponges should pass in the stool in the next 3-5 days. I hope that helps and all is well with Lucy.

If you notice these signs I would get kora seen by the vet and have x-rays performed to rule out an intestinal blockage. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Well that was naughty of Teddy to eat the rug. If he has since eaten well with no vomiting and continues to not vomit, have a normal appetite and use the bathroom fine, he should be ok. Signs of an obstruction are continuous vomiting (even water), lack of appetite, scant (small) feces and lethargy (decreased energy level). I hope that Teddy is able to pass the rug pieces well. If he chewed it well then chances of him passing it are really good. He may have an upset stomach though, at which time you can try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if it settles things down. Given that Snowball has eaten twice since and isn't vomiting, I would monitor her for signs an obstruction to be safe. It can take a couple of days for signs to be seen which include vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, not pooping, and severe lethargy. If you see any of those signs, take her into a vet right away. Otherwise if you don't see any of those signs, she will be just fine. Best of luck!

Persistent vomiting, abdominal pain and reluctance to eat are the main signs of an obstruction, difficulty passing feces can also occur if something gets stuck very far down. A small piece of paper would be unlikely to cause any discomfort but bones, stones and tots are common culprits

You can monitor her closely for signs consistent with a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea, inappetence and abdominal pain. If any of these signs are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as those may be indications of an obstruction.
