What are these dead bugs on my cat's stomach after flea treatment?

Lice are very species specific and can be found moving around on the skin and fur. Ticks attach to the skin also and appear to be as small watts. Dead ticks should be easy to remove. Most topicals that treat for ticks will also cover you for lice so you should not worry about that. If you can post a picture of the spots in the skin or what you removed it may help get your more information.

A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Hello and thank you for your questions about Toffee. I recommend to look at that area with a magnifying glass. I can't tell for certain from the photo but if that is an insect, it could be a tick, bed bug, or skin mite. Look for legs or other identifying features. You may also opt to treat Toffee with a product like Revolution Plus which will safely treat ticks and mites in cats (you have ot be very careful, some tick products are toxic to cats). Cats can also get scabs, skin tags and other skin growths. If you don't see any insect features, you may try washing the area once a day with a medicated pet wipe. Don't apply any ointment as Toffee will likely just lick it off. Monitor the lesion for the next 2 weeks. If it is getting worse at any point or is still present in 2 weeks, have Toffee examined by the veterinarian. Make sure to keep the area clean and dry. if Toffee is licking the area, have him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat her with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. advantage), then get her to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. Ticks will feed until engorged then drop off and lay eggs. Fleas will also hop off and lay eggs in the environment. You can check for flea dirt with a wet cotton ball. Rub some of the "dirt" on the wet cotton ball. If rust colored streaks appear, this is flea dirt. If not, it is likely ordinary dirt, grime, dead skin cells, etc. Fleas be treated using a topical or oral preventative. Discuss options with your veterinarian. You will need to treat for at least three consecutive months, preferably year round. Treat the environment as well. Vacuum everywhere Gab has been and discard the bag outdoors. Wash all bedding in hot water and use an area treatment, such as Knockout ES, prevent reinfestation.
