Is coconut oil safe for cat hairballs when other treatments fail?

Absolutely NOT on the coconut oil. That could cause worse issues like pancreatitis and/or diarrhea. Please keep in mind that many different things can cause vomiting in cats so Tigger may or may not have hairballs. I strongly recommend you get him to a vet for an exam. Excessive amounts of any fat (such as coconut oil) can cause diarrhea, but coconut oil is not a problem for cats otherwise. I don't recommend to do this. Olive could cause significant GI upset. Instead use a product like Laxatone. You may also switch your food to a hair ball formula. I recommend the formula by Royal Canin. daily brushing will also help. If Oliver continues to have problems, have him examined by the veterinarian.

Hello! Coconut oil may prevent the Frontline from being effective as the active ingredient uses the natural oils and pores in the skin to spread and work properly, and the coconut oil may prevent that from happening. There is no credible research that suggests that coconut oil works as a flea preventative or treatment, however Frontline is a well-tested and safe product for cats. If you would like to continue using Frontline, I suggest giving Clint a bath with a mild soap and water solution (to remove the coconut oil), waiting 24-48 hours for the fur to dry and from natural skin oils to be replaced, then applying the Frontline. Even if Clint had some Frontline applied already, the extra amount should not harm him as it is extremely safe and is not systemic (is not effective through the bloodstream). I would recommend having Masha evaluated by her veterinarian. Long haired cats should only have 3-4 hairballs per year. Any more than that can actually indicate gastrointestinal disease. She will likely need bloodwork and possibly an abdominal ultrasound. If there is a problem such as inflammatory bowel disease for example, she can be managed with medications and perhaps a prescription diet. I hope this information helps you and Masha!

I would not recommend coconut oil. This will close the pores of the skin and cause a skin infection. I recommend an over the counter aloe and oatmeal shame. This is going to cause a nice shinny coat. I do understand your diet preference but cats do eat protein in the wild and is needed for there proper growth. However if you have Holly on a proper diet she does not need any type of supplements the normal food is enough. For any type of bug- maybe fleas - I would recommend a topical flea prevention every 30 days. Typically the baths only wash off the fleas but does not prevent them from coming back.

I would not suggest using Vaseline or mineral oil for your cat. These products can contain substances that are harmful when ingested. Your vet should have a product similar to the one you've been buying and if not ask them to order Laxatone. I would only recommend giving your cat VET approved medications and supplements. Human doctors and pharmacists may be well intentioned, but they are not familiar with feline anatomy and what could possibly hurt them. ALWAYS talk to your vet first.
