My cat licked coconut oil. Is it safe for her to eat or harmful?

It is not recommended that you do this. Coconut oil is not a cure-all. It is very high in fat and could cause a deadly pancreatitis if she licks it off and ingests too much. If you would like to post again and tell us what you are attempting to treat then we can maybe help you find an appropriate product.

Coconut oil is safe, but I can't tell you for sure or not if it will work! If Kyra will allow it, the best thing to prevent hairballs would to brush her frequently to remove the extra hair so that she doesn't swallow it when grooming. I would not recommend coconut oil. This will close the pores of the skin and cause a skin infection. I recommend an over the counter aloe and oatmeal shame. This is going to cause a nice shinny coat. I do understand your diet preference but cats do eat protein in the wild and is needed for there proper growth. However if you have Holly on a proper diet she does not need any type of supplements the normal food is enough. For any type of bug- maybe fleas - I would recommend a topical flea prevention every 30 days. Typically the baths only wash off the fleas but does not prevent them from coming back.

Absolutely NOT on the coconut oil. That could cause worse issues like pancreatitis and/or diarrhea. Please keep in mind that many different things can cause vomiting in cats so Tigger may or may not have hairballs. I strongly recommend you get him to a vet for an exam. Hello, I'm sorry to hear that Luna got into the pan with onions. Generally, she would need to eat a few mouthfuls of pure onion to get a toxic amount. A few licks of oil in a pan with onion in it wouldn't cause problems, except maybe some GI distress from excess fat. If she did ingest a toxic amount of onions, it would cause anemia which results in weakness and lethargy. If you are concerned about the amount she ingested, call her veterinarian and schedule an appointment for a physical exam and bloodwork. I hope this helps. I did research the name, and I could not find any information about it being toxic to cats. I suspect that if it was causing problems, it would have come up on my veterinary database. However, I am not a big fan of essential oils in cats. They do not tolerate them as well as dogs do. So, I would not use it again in my cats to be on the safe side. I think that they are going to be just fine. If they did start to show irritation - you will need to bathe in Dawn dish soap to get the oil off. If it was just a very small amount of coconut milk, then your cat will likely be ok. Tell your grandma to wash off the coconut milk next time before feeding the fish to your cat as it can cause digestive problems and pancreatitis in a cat.
