If all my cats have flu, can I quarantine them together in one room?

At this point they have all been exposed so there is no point in isolating any of them. The only thing you won't want to do is introduce a new cat or let these cats outside. You need to quarantine your cats to your house until they are well. I suggest you nebulize the ones showing sneezing and swollen eyes. I would also recommend you give them all a lysine supplement to boost their immune systems. If they don't like the chews/treats you can search around because it comes in various forms - powder, gel, treats, etc. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Viruses can be contagious, especially if the healthy cat is unvaccinated. It is always best to keep a new cat separate from your other cat for about 2 weeks (most viruses show up in 7-10 days) and if Sifu is sick I would definitely separate them until Sifu is feeling better. Monitor Sifu, and if he isn't eating/drinking or is having trouble breathing then have him back to the vet. Once he is feeling better then get him vaccinated and then introduce the two. A cage in the same room won't separate the viruses, ideally, they would be in separate rooms where the water from the sneezing won't be inhaled by your healthy cat. Best of luck with them!

Yes, it's best to keep him in and isolated from your cat while he gets over the infection. These infections are quite easily spread from one cat to the other and it's very difficult to prevent transmission in the same household; but you can try to isolate the sick cat away from your healthy one for at-least one week after the infection appears to have resolved. They spread it through nose-to-nose contact, so avoiding this is most important for avoiding transmission. I hope that help and FuiFui gets well soon.

Hi there. This sounds like a viral infection that both of your cats have. If that is true, they will both have "flare ups" from time to time where the symptoms are worse than other times. Antivirals and antibiotics are available through your veterinarian if you can take one of the cats in-it would help to fiv/feleuk test your kitty as well. Hope this helps!

Yes there is a chance that you can carry the disease back home. If your cats are vaccinated against Calicivirus, Herpesvirus and Panleucopenia virus (and eventually Leukemia virus as well), the risk of infection should be basically none. To minimize the risk I would recommend to wash your hands/arms and clothes before getting in contact with your cats again when you are back home. Moving into a new home is very stressful for a cat, and they do react by hiding and not wanting to come out. Add onto that an illness, and they will behave differently from normal. She will adjust but it will take time. So I would keep her in one room, the bedroom she is currently in. Bring in food, water, and the litter boxes. Get her used to that room first, and keep her there while you are treating her. Once the medication course is done, then you can open the door to the room to let her explore the house. Visit her in the room a couple of times a day, not just to give her medication. Pet her, praise her, and give her treats when she comes out from under the bed. This will show her you care for her, and she will start to trust you. It will get better. I hope this helps.

I would have your other cat looked at just to make sure it is safe to give those particular meds. Without seeing the patient I cannot say for sure whether or not it is safe. Your vet prescribes certain meds depending on the health of each individual animal and what is going on with them. Also, depending on the meds prescribe, some are only good for 10-14 days and are no longer effective afterwards.
