My cat has a yellow wound with fur loss. Does she need a vet?

Poor LeeLou! I'm wondering if she's allowed to be outside, and if she is, it could be that she go into a fight with another animal. If she has a wound with pus in it, then it's infected and she has to see a vet for antibiotics. I would call your vet now to make an appointment to have her seen by a vet to get this wound examined and treated. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hello. It sounds like Marmalade has an abscess. Based on its location I would worry it may get worse as if can't drain properly. Sometimes warm compressing may help these things but usually wound care and antibiotics are needed. If you do warm compress it and keep it clean and it stays small it may be able to wait until Monday. But if it continues to have discharge, has swelling or Marmalade seems painful he should see a veterinarian before then. Do not give any human pain medication as it can be very toxic to cats.

Hi, it looks like Gelato has an infected wound. If you take a close look to the picture you can see there is a yellow tinge to it. It is not going to heal while infected. To start with, you could clean the area with some salty water putting one spoon of salt in a mug of hot water and leaving it to cool down. Once the salty water is luke warm, you can use it on the wound with some cotton wool. It might be that the yellow scab comes off and it leaves an open gap that it oozing some discharge. I also recommend to wear gloves to clean the wound. If possible at all, nest to have it checked over so your vet can clean it for you, and give antibiotics. Hope this helps !

It is uncommon for cats to get general wounds just by rubbing up against something or scratching themselves - usually a wound is due to direct trauma like a bite from another cat. If he goes outdoors this could very well be the case. This wound may turn into an infection (abscess). At this stage I would just monitor the wound. Do not put anything on it. If you notice any of these things then you need to get him to your vet ASAP. * swelling around the wound * discharge coming from the wound * wound is hot to the touch * Casey stops eating/drinking or becomes lethargic * vomiting or diarrhea Hope this helps. Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

You need to clean it twice a day with antiseptic solution. 4% chlorhexidine would work best, you should be able to buy it at pharmacies or online. Also, make sure that that your Kettey is not scratching that area and that the other cats are not licking the wound. It should go away after a few days, but if not, she will need to be put on a course of antibiotics.
