My cat has a wound, is weak, and not eating. Did I treat it right?

Hi, yes it looks like Precious has a wound. It could be an abscess that has opened and is trying to heal. If this is the case, Precious will require the area to be cleaned thoroughly by your veterinarian and might also need antibiotics. Do you have another cat that might have unwillingly caused this ? Poor cat! If the injury is serious as you say then kitty needs to be seen by your local vet for medical treatment and proper wound management. Depending on the nature of the injury, kitty may need sutures or staples, antibiotics and pain medication. Blood in the urine is a sign of stress, and weakness indicates that this kitty has a general illness such as infection going on that isn't being properly treated for. I seriously hope that your cat get the proper care soon and can recover from this unfortunate situation. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These look like lacerations that are fairly large and deep. This is probably traumatic in nature. Even though a close examination is usually needed for confirmation, I would highly suspect that these will require sutures to be able to close them. I highly recommend that you have Clyde evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would also likely start on antibiotics to prevent the onset of an infection or treat one if already present. Good luck and have a great day!

That is a pretty large wound! That being said though, it looks like it is healing fine. It does not appear swollen or to have discharge coming from it. The tissue looks healthy. Having it stitched when it first happened which would have allowed it to heal faster. I am not sure how long it's been but a wound that size would take weeks to heal without stitches. If I were you I would keep applying a topical antibiotic cream and just leave it be. Stop using the Betadine. If he is licking it you must stop that behavior by using an Elizabethan collar (cone). As long as he keeps licking it will not heal. If you want it to heal faster you need to take him to a vet to have it stitched. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Ouch, poor Eddie! Unfortunately, it's impossible to fully assess this wound's severity from a picture alone. The wound itself looks fairly large and appears to be covered in a hair-crusted scab. The challenge likes in how deep the wound goes under the scab, and if it penetrates into the tooth roots, jaw, or salivary glands. To answer your question, yes, Eddie does need veterinary attention. Since he's afraid of people, it's likely that he will need to be sedated in order for your veterinarian to examine this wound. Your vet will need to determine the depth of the wound, and at a minimum, will need to clip the hair around the wound and clean it with an antiseptic cleanser. I fully expect that they'll prescribe an antibiotic or give a long-acting antibiotic injection, as it's likely that this wound is also infected. Try to get to the vet as soon as you can - preferably within the next day. Until your vet appointment, be sure to put an e-collar (cone) on Eddie to prevent him from scratching at this area, as that will make matters worse. Best of luck and I hope that he heals quickly!

That would is bad enough that it requires veterinary care in person, especially if it is painful and has been there for weeks. Your vet can examine, clean it, and prescribe medication for pain and antibiotics for infection to help it heal.

Poor kitty! Since this wound looks rather deep and he is limping, I would definitely recommend having him seen by a veterinarian - it looks like he will probably need an antibiotic and possibly an anti-inflammatory or other pain medication, in order to treat the injury and help it heal.
