My cat won't eat her new canned beef food. How can I get her to?

You can add something to the food to entice Noushi more such as tuna water (from canned tuna) and see if she is more enticed by the tuna water to the point where she will eat on her own. Persistence and not catering to her wanting you around while she eats will help. It will take some time but be persistent and it should help. I hope this helps! First, you'll want to make sure to do a gradual change over 7-9 days, slowly adding in more new food and less old food, otherwise Shiro can get an upset stomach which may be why she doesn't want to eat the new food. If the food is a dry food, you can wet it with a little water and warm it up in the microwave for 3-5 seconds. If the food is a wet food, you can just warm it up as it is. Cats are driven by smell, and so a smelly, warm food is likely to entice them to eat. If Shiro still doesn't want to eat the new food, I would return to the old food for a bit, and then try again (slowly). A vet visit to rule out any issues such as stomach upset, illness, etc, is also a good idea if you see any other problems.

It is not unusual for cats to at some point get bored of their diet just needing a change to continue to eat well. You may add canned tuna to the food which may increase her appetite. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Nymeria. It is more nutritionally balanced to have her on a commercial cat food. I would transition her slowly to the new food. Mix the old and new foods together and gradually decrease the old food until she is consistently eating the new food. You can add warm water to the dry kibble to encourage her to eat it. For example, start by feeding 25% new food and 75% old food for a few days. Then 50%/50% for a few days. Then feed 75% new food and 25% old food for a few days. Then feed just 100% of the new food. This will help to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset as a result of a diet change. If you do not have any more of the previous diet, that is OK. You can try mixing the two foods together if you switched abruptly because some dogs do not handle a quick transition well. Mix the old food and new food together in a bowl for a week or two to gradually switch her over. You can also try things like soaking the new food in warm water to soften it or with a low sodium chicken broth to try to make it more appealing initially, then gradually decreasing the amount of liquid added to the food. Some pet stores also have a satisfaction gaurantee if you pet will not eat the food, so you can also call and find out if the store offers this and will let you exchange the product if she still refuses to eat it.
