Cat has white specks near tail after flea treatment. Is it dandruff?

If these little white balls are not moving (i.e. lice), then yes dandruff or seborrhea is most likely present. Giving Willow daily fish oils (from your local pet store), Essential 6 spot on treatments, and a medicated bath (Duoxo shampoo seborrhea), may help his skin condition. If no improvement seen within a few weeks time then its best to have him treated through your vet.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing him allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. Even if you have not being able to see fleas, this could still be flea dirt but I agree that it is less likely. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

It's hard to see anything with the photos, however if the skin is flaking a few things could be happening: skin flaking can sometimes happen with parasites, so ruling out fleas or ticks is a good first step. Dry skin can also occur from over grooming (bathing too often which strips the coat of its natural oils), or from possible allergies/issues with diet. Using an aloe or oatmeal shampoo when bathing, adding some vitamin E or fish oil to the diet may help, however if the flaking continues, worsens, or you see irritation on the skin itself, having it checked by a vet is best.

Flicka may have allergies or some other skin condition that allows her fur to pull out or break more easily than it should. She might benefit from a diet high in omega fatty acids or a food allergy specific veterinary diet as well. The best place to start would be an exam by your vet to evaluate her skin and see if she needs diagnostics like a skin scraping or food allergy trial. Hope that helps!

This looks like dandruff from this picture, however if the white specks appear to be moving or jumping, then may be lice. I recommend giving the cat a bath with warm water to rinse off any dandruff. It sounds like this brown stuff is flea dirt. I'm not sure if you were already treating her for fleas but if you aren't, I recommend giving her capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment such as advantage or revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You have to disinfect the home as well. Wash your bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the carpet and furniture services. I would use a spray such as Indorex to kill the fleas in the house, or you may have to use the flea bomb to kill them all.
