Cat anemic after worm treatment: How long for white gums to pink up?

In severe cases, animals require blood transfusions while their bone marrow regenerates red blood cells. Other times, depending on severity, the animal can get by without a transfusion. Red blood cell regeneration can take 5-7 days so it is best to recheck his PCV in a week.

The anaemia will take time to rectify itself, it can take several months for the gums to go back to their normal color. the most important thing though is that she is responding well to the treatment.

If the anemia is from parasites then his bone marrow should make new red blood cells and the anemia will resolve with time. If he is severely anemic he could die before this can happen. If the anemia is from a viral infection or cancer then even a transfusion would be a temporary fix. You can continue to keep him warm and tempt him to eat, but if he is having trouble breathing or seems to be suffering euthanasia would be the most humane option.

Those worms are tape worm proglottids. You would have to worm this puppy with a wormer like Drontal plus,however at 7 weeks it is very young to worm with praziquantel (the ingredient in Drontal plus that works against tape worm). The anemia is also likely from the flea infestation. I suggest you take your puppy to your vet for the worming and bring the photos wth the worms/proglottids with you to the vet. The vet will have to assess your puppy to verify that it can be wormed against tape worm. There are some other wormers that can be used, however. it is important to examine the puppy first since it is anemic.

The blood transfusion probably saved her life, but now her bone marrow has to kick into high gear to replace those missing & destroyed red blood cells. It can take up to 3 weeks for her blood count to return & stay at a normal level. This does not mean she will be weak & lethargic the whole time, she should get stronger every day. Stay in close contact with your veterinarian, do not skip recheck visits, & keep her as protected as possible. Her immune system is pretty weak, not only from being so young, but from the anemia, so keep her indoors & away from any unvaccinated cats. With time, she should get well, & have a normal life. An RBC of 7 is seriously low. It will take quite some time (around three weeks to get a normal RBC count) for your kitty to make new blood, so it is important that it eats and drinks. I would actually feed it canned food only, and even add some minced beef (hamburger) to it to make sure it has enough iron and moisture to make new blood. He should get a little bit better every day. Such severe anemia weakened your kitty and that is why he is so lethargic.

Julius likely also needs to be wormed. In order to make sure he is ok I suggest you take him to your vet for an exam. You say he has white gums: this is a sign of anemia which would be the reason for him to be so tired. Make sure you feed him a good quality kitten food, and get a flea preventive medication for him to kill all the fleas on him as well as in his environment. If he is at least 5 weeks old you can use frontline spray. On the photos I can also see that he has discharge from the eyes which may point to an upper respeiratory infection. Your vet can help with that as well with some antibiotics, if indicated.
