Why is my cat's stool wet but not diarrhea? Could it be worms?

If she has been tested for parasites and is negative for them, then this can be ruled out. It cannot be entirely ruled out with worming treatment alone. A fecal test is needed. There are other causes such as a bacterial or viral infection, a food allergy, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and certain types of cancers, especially cancers of the gastrointestinal system. Eating more than normal as mentioned in your question may indicate an endocrine disorder such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Both of these can also cause loose stools. Diarrhea or lose stools can be uncomfortable to pass. Cats do not show their pain very well to us at all so it can be hard to determine if Maisie is in pain, but if she is more vocal than usual, and very attached to you lately and this is not her normal behavior, then yes, it may indicate she is not feeling very well and is uncomfortable. We can have intestinal parasites that are not treated by dewormer (such as Coccidia and Giardia). We can also have things like colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or food allergy cause these issues. It is very possible the food is causing Mac some GI distress. Other possible causes could include illnesses, infections, parasites etc. A good first step is to bring in a sample of Mac's stool to your vet for an exam and to check for parasites/common GI issues. If he checks out OK, looking to switch him to a different diet or trying out a feeding trial with your vet may help if there is an ingredient he is allergic to. Yes, I would advise to get Phones dewormed. Rice shaped worms are usually tape worms BUT I have seen clients describe roundworms as rice shaped as well. I would advise a broad spectrum dewormer and a fecal exam. If he does have tapeworms, then that means he also has fleas. Fleas transmit the tapeworms. You veterinarian can prescribe the best flea medications and dewormer for your situation. If the diarrhea does not resolve after treatment, then there are many other things that can cause loose stool. I hoe this helps!
