My cat walks like drunk. What's wrong and what should I do about it?

Unfortunately, without a diagnosis it's impossible to say what you need to do to help him - there are many things that can cause a drunken, uncoordinated gait in a kitten this age, and all of these different problems would require different treatments. If the kitten has been to the vet, I would recommend asking him/her what they think is causing the abnormal gait. The kitten may have a birth defect called cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a benign condition that does not require any treatment, or could have a serious neurologic problem such as toxoplasmosis, meningitis, or even a toxicity of some kind (antifreeze, etc.) - these issues are much more serious, and would require prescription medication or even hospitalization to treat appropriately.

That sounds a little abnormal and she may have been having a mild seizure. Monitor her closely for additional signs and have your vet take a look at her. Your vet can do a work up to help diagnose and then decide if treatment is needed. If it happens again, trying recording the episode so your vet can see it.

Y=This is an emergency, especially since your cat is not eating voluntarily. Try to find a veterinarian to see her today. She will need a thorough neurological exam and likely needs iv fluids, possibly anti-nausea medication. It is very good that you are syringe feeding her. If you cannot find a vet today, make sure she eats and drinks so she does not dehydrate and take her to a vet tomorrow morning.

The signs you describe can be caused by an irregularity in the spine - this may cause the bones to compress the actual spinal cord, damaging the nerves that are responsible for controlling the back legs and tail. A veterinary neurologist would be able to further diagnose the condition and propose a treatment plan, your original vet may be able to recommend one. This wobbly gait is called ataxia. It can be caused by trauma, neurological disorders, endocrine imbalances, nutritional deficiency or infection. Sister should be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury. Bloodwork (CBC, chemistry/thyroid panels, urinalysis) and x-rays may be indicated after a physical exam.

Beast could be suffering from a metabolic disease like diabetes that can affect balance and neurologic function, for example. I recommend a full workup if this behavior continues, including blood work and potentially radiographs to look for signs of metabolic or neurologic disease, infection, or arthritis.

This does not sound normal and I recommend to have her examined today. A blind cat generally does not have trouble walking. Instead they tend to walk slowly and cautiously but they are not unbalanced. A sudden onset of neurological signs is always concerning and could indicate poisoning, a stroke from a blood clot or even potentially infectious diseases which can infect humans like Toxoplasmosis. I recommend to play it safe and have Kiki examined today. Especially with a concern for infectious disease for humans. I hope this helps.
