Is my cat vomiting yellow fluid with black fur a hairball issue?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 10 months old

My cat has been vomiting yellow fluids with black pieces (i think it’s her fur). What does this mean? And is it normal?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. With what you are describing I would be concerned about a hairball causing a foreign body obstruction. There may also be a systemic cause or infection. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at her and run some tests such as bloodwork and abdominal x-rays. Once in a while vomit may not be concerning, but if you have noticed she is vomiting more frequently, then I would have Corner examined by your veterinarian soon. Vomiting in cats can have a variety of medical causes: hairball, dietary indiscretion, organ dysfunction such as liver or kidney disease, inflammatory bowl disease, food allergies, and more.

While I wouldn't get too worried, I would recommend she see her veterinarian soon for a check up to help rule out some of the causes above.

My cat is throwing up yellow liquid. Do I need to see a vet?

It sounds as your cat is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Is my cat's vomit bloody after a hairball? Should I worry?

Thanks for the images. It doesn't appear to be blood. Blood in vomitus is usually much darker. That appears to be a mix of chewed or partially digested food, bile and hair. Monitor for continued vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian. Consider a short fast, maybe 12 hours, then offer a bland diet in small, frequent amounts for a day or two. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. If Luna will allow, increase brushing or grooming to decrease the amount of hair ingested. You can also use Laxatone or PetroMalt paste to help her pass hairballs.Find either in the local Petco.

My cat throws up daily. Is it hairballs or a foreign object?

It is ot possible to identify the source from the photo but your vet may be able to examine to confirm if it is indeed cat hair or synthetic yarn. I would recommend feeding a diet formulated for hair ball reduction for 3-4weeks. A full health check and abdominal xrays would be recommended to rule out any partial obstruction or sooner if there is any weight loss

Cat vomits hairball and colored fluid after treats. Should I worry?

She is obviously grooming a lot and therefore ingesting a lot of hairs. It is good for her to either poop out the hair or even regurgitate the hair balls. I think you are doing everything right and I would not change her food regimen. You can help her a bit by combing or brushing her coat and removing loose hair. This would reduce hair ingested. Why is my senior cat throwing up yellow bile and has pale, clay poop?

Pale coloured stool is very concerning (especially if her diet has not changed) as it indicates that the normal process of digestion and excretion is not being completed. Much of the normal stool colour comes from waste products of digestion including bile pigments and pale faeces can be a result of blockage of bile and/or reduced liver function. I would recommend a vet check and possible blood tests or ultrasound as soon as possible

If Tom only vomited one time I would not be that concerned but multiple bouts of vomiting in a short period of time is very concerning. He really needs to be examined by a vet as soon as possible. Vomiting is a very vague symptom and does not point to any one disease process or illness. He needs to be examined and possibly some testing will be needed.
