Why is my cat vomiting, drinking lots, losing weight, eating plastic?

Even though he is acting healthy, he is clearly not. He could have parasites, a virus, kidney disease, GI disease, diabetes- it really is a long list of things to rule out. He isn’t going in the box because he is equating the box to the discomfort he is having with his diarrhea. I hope you are able to find the cause of his illness and get him feeling better soon. Stress can sometimes cause a cat to vomit, however if you notice one of the cats is getting ill a lot, is rapidly losing weight, or is showing other signs of illness such as refusal to eat or drink, extreme lethargy, etc, then seeking vet care is a good idea to figure out the problem.

I see he's an older boy, and some of his symptoms can be caused by a serious medical condition like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, heart disease, or even cancer. This is very serious. Cats often hide when they are ill. Bob needs to see a vet as soon as possible. You did not mention his age so it's difficult to give you an idea of what may be going on. If he is a young cat then he may have an intestinal obstruction. In an older cat the most likely causes for vomiting, hiding, weight loss and "bathroom" issues are: kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes and cancer. Regardless, he needs to see a vet. You can't let him go on suffering.

Zoey sounds quite ill at the moment. In senior cats, there are three common illnesses that cause vomiting, increased eating, and weight loss: Hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and kidney disease. Cancer is another differential, and that could cause an enlarged belly due to tumor growth. Zoey should see a vet right away for his symptoms. I recommend having a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, urinalysis, and x-rays done on him to diagnose what is causing his symptoms. I am worried about Yoda as well. From what you are telling me, he is showing you that he is sick, and he has lost a lot of weight. He needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Gizzy needs to be examined by the veterinarian. The two most common conditions that will cause these clinical signs are kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. Please keep in mind that other causes are also possible. Both of these can be successfully managed with special foods/medications. The key however, is that treatment must start before things get too bad. The longer you wait, the worse things may become. These conditions are not death sentences if caught at an appropriate time. Many cats will live a quality life for a few years after diagnosis. I recommend to have Gizzy examined by the veterinarian within the next few days. Some simple blood and urine tests will be needed for a correct diagnosis. Left untreated, these conditions can cause pets to become more sick and potentially suffer.
