My Maine Coon cat vomits and burps. Is it dental pain or tummy?

It would be honestly hard to say without an exam. Some possible causes could be a food-based one (IE an allergy to an ingredient in the wet food that is causing a reaction after eating it) or a functional one such as a problem with the esophagus or digestive tract's ability to move the food through the body (something very common in cats). An exam would be a good idea to help rule out these causes through either some testing such as X-rays, or through a food trial to see if an ingredient can be ruled out. Until you can get to your vet, offering smaller meals more frequently may help with keeping food down and minimizing discomfort after eating.

It could be either one. I cannot tell you without examining him myself. I suggest you have the vet check his mouth for any signs of a dental issue. If that is not the problem, then it could be that the food is not agreeing with him and you should go back to the original diet.

I would wonder if the dry heaving is actually a cough - the two can sound very similar in a cat. Feline asthma, some infections or parasites like lungworms can cause a cough. I would recommend making an appointment to see your vet - they may recommend a chest x-ray to look for evidence of asthma. If you can take a video to show your vet it could help!

Your vet is right that when cats eat too quickly, they can vomit and that may be the cause of Mario's vomiting. It's good that feeding him less at a time helps with the vomiting, and he may still be eating that little bit too fast occasionally leading to the vomiting. I would continue to feed him small bits at a time to keep him from eating too fast. There are slow feeder bowls you can get him that force cats to slow down when eating, and that may be helpful for him. You can find them on the internet or possibly in a pet store. It sounds like Mario is drooling when he's relaxed and happy, and this is common. When cats become very relaxed, the tension in their jaw relaxes as well, and they drool. I had a cat who drooled so much when she sat on your lap that you would inevitably end up with large wet patches your pets! This is a normal behavior, and if it only occurs when he's relaxed and cuddling, it's nothing to worry about. I hope this helps!

Marley is a very handsome boy! I'd have him checked out by a vet for a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. In senior cats, there are medical conditions that can cause vomiting such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and kidney disease, and those tests I mentioned above can screen him for them. But you first have to differentiate whethere whether Coix is vomting (obvious retching and forceful expulsion) or regurgitating (undigested food just seems to come out without much effort). Vomiting can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, megaesophagus (typically causes regurgitation), a parasitic infection (not as common), or even an underlying congenital disorder. Most of these conditions are treatable. You should first start with some diagnostic testing to gather more information on your specific pets condition. Then we will know what needs to be done for Coix to help control his vomiting episodes a bit better. In general, you can continue to feed smaller portions and go with an easily digestible diet such as limited ingredient diets (i.e. Iams, Purina, Evo). This is something you can easily start while awaiting a proper vet visit and diagnostic work-up for Coix.
