Is it normal for my cat to use the litter box while I'm cleaning it?

Laying in the litter box is not uncommon for a cat that just moved to a new home, many cats tend to do that, they tend to feel "safer" in the box. if he does not seem to have any problem urinating, if he is eating and drinking normally, just give him some time to open up, he will grow out of it.

That could be completely normal as many cats do it without any particular reason. I would not be worried about this behavior as it is not related to any specific pathological meaning. If the litter was too dusty, he probably would not even use it! I would say that if this becomes consistent, this may be due to her not liking the litter box material or perhaps the litter box itself. That is perfectly normal. Your cat is likely afraid of the other cats in the household and the smell he is not used to and the new place. It would be best if your friend could keep your cat in a room separate from the other cats, so that he will feel safe to come out to eat and use the litter box.

This is very common for a cat to go without using the litterbox after a stressful vet visit like this. No worries. Unless you see him actively straining, then there is nothing to worry about. If you haven’t seen him go or strain the next few days then it’s best to get him seen for possible constiparon. I hope that Cheeto goes soon. Chances are though he will go soon! Well, he now knows where his litter box is and he knows what it is for. He will likely use it when he has to go. He may not have to pee or poop yet. I often change litter boxes for my cats and they have never had a problem accepting them (I have 5 cats). If you want to, you can take a bit of poop from where you just cleaned out the old box and put it into his new box. Don't panic, he will figure it out.
