Why is my cat kicking her back legs like she's digging outside the litter box?
Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Without seeing this behavior, I can only assume what is going on here. If she is laying on her side, she is just playing and kicking her back legs as cats often do. Most of the time they are holding a toy, blanket, etc with their front legs, chewing on it, and kicking their back legs like a rabbit. If she is just standing up and moving her back legs like she does in the litter box, this could mean that she feels some sensation on her back end like some stool is stuck to her or her anal glands are swollen and bothering her, or she is smelling something or detecting something and trying to cover it up. I hope this helps but seeing the behavior would be helpful. Good luck with Jazzy. I would say that if this persists, videotape it or photograph it so that we can make a better assessment.
