My cat paws the litter box sides. Is this normal cat behavior?

I would say that if this becomes consistent, this may be due to her not liking the litter box material or perhaps the litter box itself. You could try changing the litter box and/or the material to see if that resolves the issue. Good luck!

This is very common among cats. They can hardly wait for you to finish scooping before they're climbing in to leave another deposit. As long as he seems fine otherwise I don't think there is anything to worry about. Maybe he's showing off for his new friend.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Gizmoe. Scratching is a completely normal behavior in a cat, just generally an undesirable one when it is your furniture. Be sure to have plenty of scratching posts and cat friendly items for him to scratch. You can add catnip to them to entice him as well. When you catch him scratching in the wrong place, tell him no and redirect him the appropriate scratching place. Then praise him if he scratches there. As far as the litter box issues, the first step is to see his veterinarian to rule out a medical problem causing the problem. If he is found to be healthy, then it is a behavioral issue. Stress is a likely trigger. You need to have adequate litter boxes (one for every cat in the house plus one) and they are in quiet locations. Most cats do not like covered boxes. You can try a different litter substrate to see if that helps. This is a complicated issue so I happy to do a consultation if you have further questions. I hope this helps!

As long as she is eating, drinking and urinating normally, I would not worry too much about it. She might be nesting in some way. Good luck with the birth and kittens. Please keep posting about any questions you may have in the future!

Laying in the litter box is not uncommon for a cat that just moved to a new home, many cats tend to do that, they tend to feel "safer" in the box. if he does not seem to have any problem urinating, if he is eating and drinking normally, just give him some time to open up, he will grow out of it.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Without seeing this behavior, I can only assume what is going on here. If she is laying on her side, she is just playing and kicking her back legs as cats often do. Most of the time they are holding a toy, blanket, etc with their front legs, chewing on it, and kicking their back legs like a rabbit. If she is just standing up and moving her back legs like she does in the litter box, this could mean that she feels some sensation on her back end like some stool is stuck to her or her anal glands are swollen and bothering her, or she is smelling something or detecting something and trying to cover it up.
