Is it normal for my cat's upper teeth to cut into her lower lip?

They are a bit longer than in most cats though if this is not causing him an issue like pain or irritation of the gums then it is not an issue that needs treatment. Cats can sometimes get the same kinds of mouth and lip diseases that people get. Perhaps she bumped it against something or scraped it on rough surface as she was being curious. Another reason for swollen lips are possible allergic reactions to insect bites or noxious substances. In addition, dental disease or improper teeth occlusion can can cause lip abrasions. My best advice is this: As long as she is eating, drinking, and playing normally, give the lip 3 days to improve and get smaller. If there is no improvement in that time, or if the lip gets bigger in the meantime, please have her seen by your veterinarian for a thorough oral examination. I hope this helps. I would agree with your veterinarian in that they probably need to sedate or put under anesthesia to be able to better evaluate this region. Then they can treat it accordingly. This looks like the area is infected. You can clean it with a warm wet cloth. I recommend a veterinary exam to treat the hole and check the teeth to see what needs to be done to prevent this from continuing in the future. While there is normally irregular bumps around that area of the lip, it is usually not that big. I would have your vet check it to be sure. It maybe a growth or an infection or inflamed from that tooth rubbing it

Yes, this can be considered a normal pigment variation in cats. There are some color patterns, such as the orange tabby, that can have small black spots along their lips, eyelids, and nose. These are not harmful and are termed lentigo simplex.

If these are symmetrical on both sides and not changing, they are likely normal for Cali. Some cats will develop a benign thickening in the lip where the opposite canine tooth touches. Your vet will be able to provide better feedback with an in-person exam, but as long as they’re not changing and Cali seems comfortable, it can probably wait until Cali’s next routine appointment.
