My cat's diarrhea is uncontrollable and she seems dehydrated. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 15 lbs

Hello. My brother I laws cat is not doing good I don’t know what’s going on. She has diarrhea she can not control it’s dripping down her back legs. She looks very dehydrated I’m going to give her water through I.v . The diarrhea is just leaking out of her butt.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bean Bean!

That is very severe diarrhea if it is leaking out of her butt. That can lead to dehydration. Giving her fluids is one way to help but it will not fix the diarrhea and continued fluid loss. Bean Bean needs to see a vet today for an exam and medication. Bring a stool sample. Causes of diarrhea in a young cat are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, she ate something gross that is upsetting her stomach, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/people food, pancreatitis, FIP, Feline Leukemia or FIV.

I am a bit worried about dehydration, even with him drinking. Most of these issues are due to intestinal parasites, such as roundworms & coccidian. Your worming tablet may take care of the roundworms, but you really need to have the stool examined for any other problems. A consult with your veterinarian will be most beneficial in getting Beans onto the road to great health. Take care.

Why is my cat smearing terrible-smelling poop everywhere suddenly?

It could be Beanz had diarrhea and couldn't control his bowels. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ivy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Oreo is having diarrhea. Diarrhea in kittens can be due to a variety of reasons, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, a virus or another underlying issue. I would recommend Oreo be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for her diarrhea, have any necessary testing done (fecal analysis, etc) and start any treatment (dewormer, antidiarrheal, probiotic) that she may need to help resolve it.
