My cat is unbalanced and blind after surgery. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poot Vali! Yes! A total ear ablation can affect the peripheral vestibular nerve with in the ear. They can also have other temporary peripheral nerve defects like horner's (small pupil, elevated 3rd eyelid), facial nerve paralysis, etc. I'd expect the unbalanced symptoms to resolve but it may take time. Be sure to inform your Vet who performed the surgery so they are aware and can provide medications if needed. I hope this helps and I wish Vali a speedy recovery!

Hello. I cannot imagine what anesthesia was used on poor Daaboul that after 4 days he is still having problems. You need to return to your veterinarian to see about what was done to affect your kitty so badly, & they should immediately take steps to return him back to health. These symptoms suggest that Stidi hs problems with the middle ear (infection, inflammation, polyp, tumour) or it may be related to brain disfunction (blood clot within the brain, ruptured vessel in the brain, tumor). Please, take Stidi to your local vets as soon as possible. If the symptoms are due to middle ear problem, he will need a course of strong anti-inflammatory medications and possibly antibiotics to get better.

Hello, sorry to hear about Dora. Its likely that Dora has suffered a middle ear or inner ear injury and could have peripheral vestibular disease. She should be examined by a veterinarian to look into her ear and confirm that her ear drum may be ruptured. This could have happened due to and underlying disease such as an external ear infection, anti-nausea medications, and occasionally cats may need appetite stimulants. Poor Lolo, she might have a severe ear infection or an inner ear polyp, which can be easily found in young cats. There is not much you can do at home for her, she needs a vet examination to confirm wether it is an ear condition or something that affects other parts of the nervous system. This sounds like she may have retinal detachment which can be a result of uncontrolled high blood pressure. The blindness may be permanent. I would absolutely take her in right away since she has other symptoms also and the sooner she gets treatment the more likely she will be able to recover. This could be a number of things including diabetes, severe arthritis, a brain tumor, infection, inner ear infection, and others. Regardless, it is clear she is not doing well. She needs a thorough visit with a vet to figure out what’s wrong and how to make it better. It is also completely reasonable and possibly the best choice to humanely euthanize her if we can’t get her comfortable. Best luck in whatever you decide.
