Can I feed my cat tuna cat food daily without yellow fat disease?

If it's a complete and balanced cat food that contains tuna, that is fine to feed regularly. However, 100% tuna from a can (meant for human consumption) should only be given as a rare treat. You're welcome to post another question with the specific type of cat food in question, if you're unsure whether what you have is considered "complete and balanced."

Feeding a fish based commercial diet that is nutritionally complete is just fine as long as Cinderella is not allergic to the fish in the food you are giving. Cats that are fed raw fish frequently is more of the concern as they can develop serious nutritional deficits and vitamin deficiencies such as Thiamine deficiency which can be deadly. It is for this reason feeding raw fish primarily to cats is not recommended. However, feeding a small amount of tuna from a can occasionally as a treat is okay and will not cause a vitamin deficiency as long as they are also eating a commercially prepared food. No need to change the food Cinderella is enjoying now. From what you described, it sounds like she has tried a few foods that may have been giving her runny stools so if she is doing well on this particular food from Taste of the Wild, then I would keep her on that. It is not necessarily "healthier" than wet food. Most commercial cat diets, whether dry or canned/wet, are formulated to be balanced in the appropriate macro- and micronutrients that cats require as part of their daily nutrition. As long as Bandit is eating an appropriate amount of the dry commercial cat food (there should be feeding amounts based on weight on the bag), giving him extra food in the form of tuna and salmon is OK. Just be careful about giving him too many calories, as this can cause him to be overweight. Obesity in cats is linked to many disease processes such as arthritis, diabetes and liver disease. I recommend asking your veterinarian to help you determine the correct amounts of each food that you should be offering Bandit to keep him at a healthy weight. I hope this is helpful!

Feeding tuna alone is not a balanced diet for Muffin, and could result in a variety of health problems from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. In order to get Muffin to eat cat food, you can try mixing the canned tuna with cat food. Then gradually decrease the amount of tuna being offered while increasing the amount of cat food over the course of a week. Canned cat food may be easier to mix with the canned tuna since Muffin is more likely to be able to pick the tuna pieces out of dry food. Since he seems to have a preference for tuna, try to find seafood based foods. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

But if this is human grade canned tuna, then only use this sparingly as a treat. Human grade tuna is missing a specific amino acid necessary for a cats health called taurine. Take care.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. I do not like to institute a diet change until a cat is healthy if at all possible. They should be eating and drinking on their own. If you offer a new food when they are still ill, it is easy for them to develop a food aversion. So I would feed him his regular diet or the tuna until he is eating drinking well. Then slowly try very small amounts of the z/d. It may need to be a very gradual transition for him. I hope this information helps!
