Cat threw up worm medicine. When can I safely give another dose?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I have 2 cats and they've been having some bowel issues - pretty sure its tape worm so I gave them each a worming tablet. One of them threw up afterwards but I'm not sure how soon after, or whether they threw up the tablet or not. I'm also not sure which cat it was that threw up. I'm just wondering when it is safe to give another dose of the worming tablets to both cats to make sure they've both been properly treated? Thanks!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

As long as the worming tablet was in for about 30min then you don't need to give a second tablet. However a 2nd tablet, as long as it is one designed for cats, won't cause a problem. They have very high safety margins.

Best of luck with your kittens!
