Cat threw up worm medicine. When can I safely give another dose?

You can re-dose him. It is a very safe medication. But, if you didn't see any trace of the pill in the vomit I would suspect he kept it down. It would have been better to give it a few days after his anethesia. The anesthesia along with the medicine probably upset his stomach. For future reference, any time you give an oral pill to a cat it is best to "chase" the pill with a small amount of water to ensure swallowing. Hope this helps!

Sometimes the worms die and just come out like mucus in the stool, not full worms. If you gave the proper dose I’m sure it was effective. Poor Timmy! If he also vomited up the tablet, you will have to give him an additional deworming treatment. I would wait until tomorrow to give him another one, and give it to him with some food, such as boiled white meat chicken (no bones or skin). Tapeworms can travel into the cat's stomach, which is why you would have seen him vomit one. It sounds like he has a heavy burden of worms. He will likely need another treatment with the deworming tablet three weeks after first deworming treatment (the ones that stays down and isn't vomited up) to kill all the worms. I hope this helps.

If he vomited within 2 hours, I would recommend calling your vet to let them know and picking up a second dose to repeat the treatment. It likely didn't have enough time to absorb in to Allyson's system.

This will depend on the type of tape worm medication. You should use only a proper tape worm medication containing praziquantel or one prescribed by your veterinarian. If your cat regurgitates the praziquantel wormer you can give her another dose the next day. If she only took part of it, give her the rest of the dose preferably 1/2 hour later.
