My cat's third eyelid is visible. Should I be concerned or monitor it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 10.8 lbs

My cats third eyelid is visible a lot in past two days when he is resting. I took him to a vet and they checked and said there’s nothing wrong and sometimes the third eyelid can stick and return to normal. My cat keeps doing it, and I am feeling very concerned. Should I monitor it over next few days? Or should I get him checked out again?

This sign could be sometimes related to a systemic illness or gastrointestinal disease. More rarely eyes problems are present.
I would recommend to monitor him at this stage and if there are no other signs I would agree with what your vet suggested.

If her symptoms are enough for you to be concerned, it's worth getting her checked. You may be seeing early signs of a medical condition and it's always best to catch such things early before it gets out of hand. The third eyelid coming up could be a sign of a mild or oncoming eye infection or even an underlying malaise that hasn't show any other signs yet.
