My cat is tearing her ear and has a lip bump. How can I help her?

Most likely Charlotte has an abscess on her cheek which is a pocket of puss under the skin. This is most commonly due to a scratch from another cat. You can apply a hot compress to the area to bring in the blood supply to help heal the area. If there is a scab try to remove it so the infection can drain. once the puss is draining continue cleaning the area and try to massage it to remove all the puss. If it won't drain you will need to bring her to your veterinarian to have it cleaned, drained and to get antibiotics for Charlotte to treat the infection. Hello! With out at least a picture of the bumps its hard to give you an idea of what may be going on. I can tell you that the most common reason cats scratch there ears is due to a mite infection. Another common problem are polyps in her ear, which are usually in the ear canal and can cause cats to scratch their ears. The bumps around the outside of her ears could be irritation from her scratching the area. Other considerations could be a primary dermatological problem and neoplasia. While age is certainly not a disease, neoplasia is more common in older pets and therefore has to be on the list. I do not think Spicy is any immediate danger. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as for an examination of her ears and possibly some tests of the skin around the ears. Hopefully this helps a bit!

That unfortunately should be checked out by a vet in person, especially if it's growing in size and looking more inflamed than usual, as this could indicate something such as an infection or growth that requires treatment. Typically, a vet will be able to take a sample of the area to determine the exact cells present and what treatment is needed. Until you can get to the vet, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Sebastian may help keep him from rubbing or pawing at it to help it heal. Keeping the area clean and dry may also help. The most likely cause for scabs and bumps in that location is scratching due to itchiness, and the most common cause for this is either ear mites or fleas. I recommend using a cat safe flea/mite product. I would otherwise leave the bumps alone, and do not apply any products. The most common cause of itching the ears in cats is from ear mites. These mites are incredibly annoying and cats will do almost anything to make them go away, including hurt their skin as you are seeing. You can try an OTC ear mite medication (see link below), but if it isn't better in a couple days, Sassy should probably be evaluated by a veterinarian. I can't really tell you what is causing the bump between her shoulders. It could be caused by infection, inflammation, or even a tumor. With a clean ear canal, the most common cause of tiny bumps on the ear itself is related to hypersensitivity reactions from insect bites. The inflamed and sore lesion in front of Teak's left ear is most likely due to self-trauma from him scratching. The concern is that this skin may be infected from the excessive scratching. Your best bet is to take Teak to his vet for an exam because he may need a course of antibiotics and antihistamines to manage this issue. Be sure that Teak is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Advantage or Revolution) monthly because flea bites can also cause bumps on the ears. I hope that all goes well!

It's hard to see what is going on from the photo. Bumps on the lips/chin can be a number of things, including feline acne, infections under the skin, allergies, etc. If Leo has trouble getting to the vet, I would definitely look into the sedative option, or see if there is a house call service near you that can come to you. Both of these options are a great way to make veterinary care a little easier. Since bumps on the chin may require having a sample taken of them to determine it's cause, sedatives may be needed regardless to ensure everyone is safe and calm during the procedure. Until you can get to the vet, I would continue to monitor the area for additional changes, keep it clean and dry, and if it is itchy or bothersome, place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Leo to keep her from rubbing the spot which can lead to more irritation. If she's wary of the carrier, working on getting her used to it by leaving it out at all times and tossing treats in it/feeding her next to it may help make it a little easier if you do need to use it.
