My cat's tail is cut and bleeding heavily. Is it an emergency?

My cat got her tail cut off today and I was wondering if there something I can do it's bleeding a lot can she die from that?

Hi. Poor thing! Yes, they can die from infection or blood loss or shock. I'm not sure if you mean she had it surgically removed today, or trauma removed it? Either way, I'd get her to the ER Right away.

Hello! If Kimora's tail has been cut off, it is an emergency situation. Not only is this extremely painful for Kimora, but there are major blood vessels in the tail that may not stop bleeding until they are sewn shut, and she may not make it if the bleeding isn't stopped. I highly recommend that you wrap Kimora's tail tightly with a clean cloth (a towel or old t-shirt works well for this) and get her to an emergency veterinarian right away.

This will be painful to her, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. Hello. I am so sorry that your kitty was injured. Technically, this is an emergency because if an infection gets started in the bone, it can have serious consequences for her. It is very unlikely the tail will heal on its own, but I have seen this injury in feral cats & the tail tip can eventually just slough off. Keep cleaning the wound but do make an appointment with your veterinarian at your earliest convenience to have this taken care of properly. My cat has a red hairless patch with blood. Is it serious or an emergency?

Hi there! What you're describing sounds more likely to be a skin problem of some kind (allergies, etc.) vs. an actual wound or something more serious, although of course it's always hard to say without being able to see her in person. It does sound like this is something that should be seen by a vet, since skin issues in cats that are severe enough to cause hair loss and raw spots will virtually always need prescription meds to treat effectively. But if she's acting normal otherwise (eating and drinking, relatively active, no other obvious symptoms), then I wouldn't consider it to be an emergency. It should be okay to call your regular vet's office and get an appointment scheduled for her when you're able to, hopefully within the next week or two. :)

My cat has a painful tail wound. Should I go to an emergency vet?

Hi there and thanks for posting! The wound you posted a picture of is a little hard to see, but it does look red, swollen, and draining a bit which isnt good. Although not necessarily an emergency, Molly should be seen as soon as possible for this. If your vet isn't open this weekend or available to get you in today or tomorrow, then going to an emergency vet would be my recommendation. I wouldn't wait until Monday on this one. My cat was attacked and has a bloody wound. Should I see a vet?

I would strongly recommend taking her to your vet as she will need to have an antibiotic injection to prevent an infection from surely happening. the are should be clipped and clean as much as possible but a course of antibiotics is crucial.

Ouch, poor Daisy! That looks quite painful and red, and I would be very concerned about infection. She should see a vet immediately to get this treated. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
